Seriously though... What on earth are we going to do at QB ?

And do we really want to be mildly good next season ?

Lets say we get a bridge QB , and we end up 7-10, 6-11..... we are once again stuck in that weird portion of the draft... with no Franchise QB in sight ... All we are doing is wasting rookie contract years on players like Nabers, Theo, Banks and even Wandale

I don't think Sanders and Ward are trade up players... but if we don't go after them we could be in QB hell for the next decade ..... or we can keep sucking and winning meaningless games in December and going through this ALL OVER again

In all seriousness... what do we do for next season and the future

We can get Fields .... but honestly WTF does that do for the franchise ? If he and Nabers click but wen only win 6 games what are we really doing here ?

I think at this point its either trade up for Sanders/Ward or give money to a big name QB ... but we have no options besides maybe Darnold and that is unlikely

We are truly is a terrible situation right now .... A bridge QB when you really look at it completely impedes on building a good team ... because we will just have to resign these rookies (or lose them) then the whole "Having good players on the cheap" goes out the window

The O-line was NOT the problem when healthy ..... the defense could use a CB1 .....

But the offensive failure was 75% due to bad QB play... and I was a HUGE DJ fan...

But again what is truly the end game here ? Do we roll with Lock go 3-13 again then hope for another rookie QB next season ? With that we once again risk losing meaningless games

This meaningless win hurt this team.... but I think we either go all in at QB this season or we just roll with Devito and tank... but that is depressing

Thoughts ?

I definitely do not want to throw money at the 'hot' QB of the moment. I also don't want some retread as a 'placeholder' for whom. They say the QB class next year will be a good one, but that doesn't mean we will be able to draft them either. We would probably win the last game of the season to keep that away from us.

As I have said several times, if I were Schoen, I would be on the horn to the Vikings, seeing what they want for McCarthy. We will have a very high #1. maybe even higher than where they drafted him. Throw in a 5th for next year and make the deal. He is better than anyone from this year's draft. If we knew then what we know now, he might be a Giants right now.

I didn't like JJ  last year but this year Id gladly give him a shot... but for a 2nd... not a first

Len,

They spent time interviewing McCarthy last year and didn't pick him. If they didn't want him last year, why would they invest even more draft capital on a rookie coming off of an injury and he hasn't taken a single snap in the NFL?

My support for Schoen and Daboll would flip like a fish out of water if they did that.

They didn't want him as they didn't want Nix or Penix. Why because some had the bright idea that if we got Jones a legit #1 WR, he MIGHT amount to something. WRONG on both counts. I'm not knocking Nabors as I do think he will be something special, but he won't win games for us as a QB will.

Plus the Vikings swill never give McCarthy up for a #2, I would make the trade our #1 for him wherever we pick.
Do you think this years QB class is any better?

I don't think either of these QBs is worth trading up to get.  If they win this week, forget it entirely. To move up from 6th, 7th, 8th to 1st or 2nd would cost them their 2nd this year, 1st and 2nd in each of 2026 and 2027 as well.

Browns play the Ravens who need to win to win the division.  Titans play the Texans who are locked into the 4th seed.  New England plays Buffalo who is locked into the 2nd seed.  But, now have to worry about the 4-12 teams in case the Giants do beat the Eagles.  Panthers play the Falcons who are out.  Bears play the Packers who are playing for seeding.  Jaguars play the Colts who just showed they are terrible.  Raiders play the Chargers who are playing for seeding, but are already in.  Jets play the Dolphins who are still alive.

It will all be settled by this time next week, so for now just have to see how it plays out. If they wind up in the 3rd spot, maybe they can move up if New England has 1 or 2.  If they wind up in 4th or worse, then doubt it.  At that point, have to look to get someone in FA and then draft either Will Campbell or Will Johnson in the first round and possibly take a QB in round 2 or 3.

Lenn you are right. They are in an impossible situation. And they have a very short leash if they come back. The team will not be good next year no matter what. Maybe 6-7 wins if they are lucky. It's a mess and winning yesterday made it messier. Even if they didn't pick a QB number one, having that pick gives them so many options.

Len,

I think we know Mara was behind keeping Jones. It's also known that Schoen and Daboll were interested in Daniels and probably Maye as well.

As I said, they already interviewed JJ extensively and didn't select him. Let them interview Sanders and Ward and take it from there.

Talking with a friend of mine, he says Ward can come right in and do for us what Daniels is doing in Washington. Sanders would be effective also but will need better protection though.

Yeah, I don't get this new found love for McCarthy.  Didnt he have both knees operated on since the draft?  Pass. Would rather re-sign Lock and guarantee the first overall next season.

President Rick

was anyone impressed with sanders in his bowl game?  and didn't ward take himself out of his bowl game?  Is that what we want?

Who says we can't get a good prospect in rd. 2 or 3?  Not everyone wants/needs a qb so there will be qb's on the board at the top of rds. 2-3 if we see one who can be developed under a bridge qb [NOT one costing what darnold will want...I'm thinking Flaco or Cousins for 1-2 years while we build the OL and D.

JJ's injuries were meniscus tears, something we all have had problems with, not serious knee issues.
And most 'experts' say if JJ were in this year's draft he would be the 1st QB off the board as he is better than anyone else in the draft. Yes, he hasn't done squat, but he also passed on Nix and Penix and I think you see what they have brought to their prospective teams. Wny think JJ couldn't do that for the Giants?

Haven't we been down that road several times already, with basically nothing to show for it? AND, who is going to develop this raw talent--Daboll?

Penix has played 2 games one was against the Giants.  Nix has had a nice season, but so did Stroud last year and he has come back to earth.  It is not about having a decent season NEXT year, it is about the next 5-10 years.
