Thought it best to start one thread now the sackings have kicked off.

Mayo gone: Bill's successor lasts a year.

Elephant in the room alert: this Mayo firing ain't going to sit well with a lot of people.

Will be a big national story.

Sorry for the potential obvious question but because he's black or because they played themselves out 1st overall?

Because it's only been one year, and they have no talent on the team, and didn't sign any. He had nothing to work with and they fired him, just to fire him, he wasn't even given a chance.

More odd considering her was groomed to succeed Bill for some time.

Well I think it's always a little controversial to fire a coach after just one year (barring scenarios where the guy is a complete disaster including conduct like Urban Meyer), but yes, when it's a minority it's going to just add another fairly conspicuous layer of controversy.

I think Mayo was getting fired no matter what. I really doubt Kraft told him he'd keep his job if he lost the game.

Mayo's team had less talent than the Giants and played much harder despite that lack of talent. Raw deal.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a coaching position available for him at North Carolina.

I would be. Belichik had his crony Mike Lombardi out there skewering Mayo in the media for ostensibly blaming some of the teams issues on the prior leadership (right before Mike took a job with Bill, of course).

Apparently he made some very bad tactical in-game decisions which exposed his inexperience.

Kraft wants Vrabel as the coach and Vrabel wants the Patriots job,

Sounds like a convenient excuse. Plenty of rumblings weeks ago they were going to move on from him.
