So... you believe everything you saw on Hard Knocks but not his pressers.  :surrender:

Apples and oranges.  I believe Schoen said to the press he wouldn't sacrifice the team's future to save his job, just as I believe that Schoen and Daboll said what they said on Hard Knocks.

Although, I am not sure what the point of your question was.  Do you believe that Schoen (and to a lesser degree Daboll) lies during the countless hours of Hard Knocks filming?  To what end?  To look incompetent, because that is how they came across

It's amusing watching the narratives shift here, as it's enough to make you dizzy. In 2023, Brian Daboll was held up as the prime example of how crucial a head coach is to a quarterback's success. Today, it's fascinating to see how quickly opinions can change; there's little consistency around here...

Matt,

Has it ever occurred to you that people are not fixed constants?  That the 2022 Brian Daboll, who was hell-bent on building an offense that played to his QB's strengths over the last few years, started shifting the offense to the one he prefers to run?  Also, I hope those dizzy spells that exposure to the truth cause you get better.   ;)

You're the one floating the idea that Schoen is being less than truthful, not me.

Regardless, this isn't going anywhere productive. They're back and free agency and the draft are the next important situations.

It's not that I am accusing Schoen of being dishonest.  It's simply a reality that a GM who was planning on sacrificing the team's future to protect their job wouldn't announce it.  It's a basic reality.

So, my point is that Schoen claiming he won't "hail Mary" on team building doesn't bring any new valuable data to the discussion.

No different than announcing a plan/vision on Hard Knocks. Doesn't mean he didn't have one but we spent much of the summer discussing that point.

It cuts both ways.

There were many discussions about decisions, yet not a single reference to a plan.  While there is a remote possibility that, somehow all the references to Schoen's master plan ended up on the cutting room floor, it seems more likely that either Schoen doesn't have a plan or he doesn't use it effectively

I disagree. But that's fine.

Your calling it a "claim" carries the suggestion that he's being dishonest. You can disguise it however you want but then that also suggests that you're questioning my intelligence.  ;)

I agree with this and shouldn't have implied otherwise. I see your point. I don't agree on the topic but can't question your motivation.

I agree. He may not even see it as a Hail Mary. I don't think Jerry Reese saw 2016 as a hail Mary. He was just trying to be aggressive. There's a fine line between being aggressive and being desperate. It can be hard to figure out which side of the line you're on when your job is on the line and you're immersed in a dysfunctional environment.

I appreciate that.

Another point of clarification: it's not about Schoen and Daboll. It's about the GM and HC regardless of their names.

If you were the GM and Mighty was the HC and Mara was meddling with your jobs, my position would not change one bit, regardless of your records the past two seasons.

This is where I give Schoen credit. I think he knew full well what he was getting himself into. Having been there for a few years now, he knows what he's dealing with and how he wants to handle it.

That's not to say he has all the answers and is going to fix everything in one offseason. I'm just suggesting that going forward, his moves won't be a casualty of Mara's meddling and the nepotism that feeds the dysfunction.
