To me, these selections mean more than the Pro Bowl.

I believe the Pro Bowl formula is a third coaches, a third players, and a third fans

McKinney
Barkley

Question is - if we had them this past year, how many wins would it have generated?

That is a tough question to answer.  Beyond their contributions in terms of play on the field, both players are known for their leadership.  Player leadership was badly lacking with this team especially when the cut DJ and other captains started getting hurt.

Sadly, if both were on the Giants, there is an excellent chance injuries would have hampered one (Barkley especially) or both

I see Xavier McKinney made the list.

Now I don't feel so bad "over-celebrating" when the Giants draft him (and I'm really irritated).

Assuming there was a problem with keeping him (other than $$$) did we ever figure out what it was?

Bob
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

I have not heard why NYG seemed to have no interest, or McKinney had no interest.   It seems to have been downplayed by both sides.  There was the infamous vacation injury and some public friction between Wink and McKinney but no one has suggested either issue played a role.

I don't agree with this, but I did find the point interesting

First, to be clear this is the NFLPA team, NOT the AP team.

Next, can someone explain to me why they would have a FB on the team and not say a 3rd LB?

How many team have a FB on the roster? I think the answer is like 12 of 32.  I realize with sub packages being used 70% of the time that teams regularly might only have a 1 or 2 LBs on the field.  Just makes no sense to pick one of the 12 rostered FBs for an all-pro team.

Part of reason McKinney was not resigned was he was a bit salty in his comments and started to get more aggressive as time went by along with the fact they felt he wasn't as good as he is showing.

His durability should've been a bigger part of the Giants equation

Trench: Nice post. I realize he was getting a bit "mouth-y" toward the end, but I'm writing because:

(1) your remark about durability is so true. I always saw him as a "gamer" (reliable)

(2) in your first paragraph where you said "wasn't as good as he is showing" [this season] is possible but I believe it's more likely he didn't want to stay with the Giants because he felt he was being used wrong (and the "proof of the pudding" is this season. I don't know the Vikings' defense very well compared to Wink's, but it's likely they're using him differently than the Giants did. I always saw him as the rough equivalent of our last really good safety (Kenny Phillips), a man who could be "trusted" to cover the entire width of the field, and allow the defense to play "single-high" safety defense.

I also think it's possible he wasn't fully utilized in the Giants scheme.

To that end, I pray the same is true for Thibs and we will see a massive turnaround next year.

I'm concerned about Bowen defense inability to do 3 things:

1. Tackle
2. Take aways
3. Stopping the run (up the middle)

Barkley would of made things happen behind this years line

Side note

McKinney was blasted for not being a leader after his utv accident during bye week

Would you guys say Barkley was better for the Giants in 2023 than Tracy was for us this past year? The numbers don't really suggest that.

I get that the line was a little better this year but it was not the Eagles' line. Or close.

Barkley as an Eagle is simply a different player than what he would have been for us and was in the more recent years.

IMO Thibodeaux doesn't fit as well with Bowen as he did with Wink, but I'm still pleased with him because he is doing his job setting the edge a lot better than I expected.  I suspect he took to heart Strahan's advice to be patient, be sure you're solid against the run, don't TRY to get sacks and be content with pressures because, eventually, the sacks will come. All that was great advice. Bob
