The AD and President of UNC should be fired for agreeing to that.

They had to be pretty desperate to agree to such a clause.   I mean $10 million is nothing for the billionaires who own NFL teams

That might be the worst contractual clause I've ever heard of.

Perfect opportunity for John to back pedal.

I think he wanted to fire both Schoen and Daboll but had no confidence in his ability to hire their replacements.

Go get Bill and let him hire is own GM and staff. Set up a succession play after two or three seasons and viola, the Giants are legit again.

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

When you consider that Bill took Mike Lombardi with him to NC, what Mike was saying about the Giant's positions and Bill Belichick leads me to believe that Mara was not interested in hiring him.  I strongly suspect that feelers were put out to Mara prior to Bill taking the NC job, and he was rebuffed

You may well be right Rich.

How bad are we going to be for how long with Maras poor decision making?

A move like that would be much too radical for the stodgy, conservative Mara. Risks are something he avoids like the plague.

It's not just John Mara.  I am sure his brother, his nephew, Ronnie Barnes, and other higher-ranking people with cushy jobs with zero accountability all spoke out against hiring Bill Belichick.  The thing is, when you bring in a guy like Bill, there is going to be accountability throughout the building.   People will naturally do what it takes to protect their cushy, well-paid jobs.

Yes but John is the bottom line and he's allowing this to continue.

That's why I advocated for hiring a President of Football Operations to bring back some accountability throughout the building.  Although, in fairness, keeping both Schoen and Daboll after three wins makes accountability a tough sell in that building

That would not change anything if Mara doesn't stop meddling. There would just be another person for him to influence.
