QuoteI tend to base my mock drafts on what I'm hearing around the league, whereas my Top 50 prospect rankings reflect what I'm seeing during my own evaluations. Keep an eye out for those rankings in the days ahead, but for now, here is my first look at how the top 32 selections could play out when the draft gets underway on April 24 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Pick
3
New York Giants

Cam Ward

Miami · QB · Senior

The Giants are desperate for a quarterback. Ward's strong arm and playmaking ability would be a great fit.

There are some ridiculous comments made by so-called NFL people.  Did they actually watch the person?  Starks from UGA is a really good all ver the field player.  If he had a down year, I want some of that.

He did have a down year by the standard he set the previous seasons. That and Jahdae Barron is leaping up boards because of his monster year and the fact that he could play corner, nickel, linebacker, and safety. If Starks is 1A, Barron is 1B. That but there are some mid round and late round safeties who could turn out to be elite like Mukuba which brings down the value of Starks but he's still very much at top 10 pick in most people's eyes.

I watched a lot of UGA football both years and thought often he was the best UGA defensive player with no drop off at all between seasons.  He closes quickly and does not overshoot his intended target.

If we needed a safety, I'd zero in on him if we are drafting around 12th.

I think DJ's board will move around a lot like it always does.  Doubt an OT goes top 10 from this group.

3 Interior oline guys in the top 11, because I think Campbell is 100% a guard at the next level.

Also the will Johnson disrespect is real

DJ's comment about WJ is ridiculous.  He tackles aggressively and hits hard.  Doubt with his size he runs sub 4.4 but probably 4.42.  The QB rating of QBs who throw to his coverage is 41.  That's incredible.  He'll go much higher.

I have him top 5 right now which caught me off guard DJ had him 14. Someone's underscoring the kid to hopefully get him higher. I have Tyler Warren a top 15-17 prospect but not number 7.

Jeremiah is easily one of my favorite three draft gurus... but his scenario (Giants stay put, AND Ward is still available, AND they take him) is remote at best.

First, it's highly unlikely Ward will still be there at Pick Three.

Second, if the Giants truly believe Ward is the "answer" to what ails them, they will trade up.

Bob

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

Jess, as DJ said, this is what he is hearing from NFL teams, not his assessment

Pick
15
Atlanta Falcons

Will Johnson

Michigan · CB · Junior

Johnson is a polarizing player around the league. He provides size and production, but some questions emerged about his tackling and top speed in 2024.

We can hope and pray that the Titans take Carter, and Browns take Hunter, then we auction off #3 to the highest bidder aka the Raiders or whoever.

Not happening. In that scenario,  The Giants will draft a QB at 3.
Ain't nothing to it but to do it!

J: IMO, if two non-QB's go before Pick Three, we ALMOST HAVE TO take a QB, which is my current "nightmare scenario" (unless it turns out that they really like Sanders or Ward, to which I'd say, "Really... you wanted him so bad that you were unwilling to trade up two spots to get him?).

If they don't really want any high-first-round QB and can't trade down for more than a fair price, then we are in nightmare territory.

Their possible outcomes are to accept a lousy trade deal down, or stay put and settle for their third-favorite non-QB, or take a QB for whom they'll believe they over-paid. Ugh!

Sooners: Absolutely agree. But it's my "nightmare" scenario (see my post immediately above this) UNLESS it turns out the Giants really wanted Ward or Sanders all along (to which I'd ask, "If you REALLY REALLY liked them enough to pay Pick Three money, how can you justify not trading up to ensure getting your man?"). Maybe they see the QBs of worthy of 3 but not worthy of multiple 1sts and other draft capital? 🤷🏼♂️ but like you say if they aren't then why draft them at 3. Likely just less of a risk if they bust.

Something I am curious of, is how often the "experts" have claimed a bad QB class and how often they are right/wrong?
