He was an Eagles fan growing up. Safe bet he still is.

Funny - with all this depression about losing Barkley, I'm about 15 times more bummed we didn't get Daniels. Barkley is great but he doesn't have the future Daniels does. Barkley has maybe two or three more good years if he's lucky. Daniels is literally just getting started.

Washington will find a way of screwing him up. They always do.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Let's go Bills!!!!!

Washington turnovers ... ugh!!!

Washington panicking, trying too hard, not protecting the ball ... their inevitable downfall.

Otherwise, they could hold their own against the Iggles.

But not today. They're not quite ready for this kind of game, so it seems. Maybe one year they will be. But now it's back to square one and try again next year.

Alas, these Iggles will be looking to avenge their last Super Bowl loss.

Peace!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

Quote from: PSUBeirut on January 26, 2025, 04:48:53 PMI'm not sure about emotionally invested, but yes I've been a huge fan of Barkley from the start- a big part of the pain of this season for me is watching what SHOULD have been with the Giants.  I've watched him since he was a freshman at PSU, so no offense but when I saw all of your posts in the past about how he was washed up, wouldn't get the kind of $$$ he was looking for, etc.- I knew you were wrong.  I knew whatever "advanced metrics" you were using to justify your opinions were simply useless in Saquon's case.  The way this season has played out, it's obvious you were wrong.  The guy is a special athlete and by the end of his contract will be 29 (not the start of the contract...the end).  By the way, if you'd like to check out just how reasonable his contract is, based on performance- be my guest:  https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/25097/saquon-barkley  (1.5% of cap this year, 2.4% next year, and a whopping 3.3% in year 3- with no years of more than $10 million hit).  The Eagles are laughing all the way to the bank.

And I've said all along that this past offseason it was the right move for the Giants not to sign him because he'd still be languishing in this sadly trash organization.  Where the Giants screwed the pooch, obviously, was not giving in by literally a few million bucks on the long-term contract he wanted and tagging DJ instead of Barkley.  I truly don't see how any rational person at this point could not point to this as a huge mistake (signing DJ and tagging Barkley instead of the other way around).

But, I digress.  I just found it interesting that despite watching, in real-time, Saquon do MVP-caliber things while likely now leading his new team to a Super Bowl that you're still taking the time to denigrate the dude who did everything in his power while he was here to help his team win.  Last thing I'll say is- maybe take your advanced metrics with a large grain of salt next time and also accept the fact that sometimes we make calls and they're wrong.
I'll just assume you don't realize how Roseman does contracts, so I won't hold that against you. He pushed the majority of saquans contract for after he's done playing. The Eagles are paying Saquan for the next 7 years even though he's only under contract for 4.

The advanced stats you thought were useless were War and the football Outsiders above replacement metrics that every major organization uses to discuss prospects and their own players so useless to you maybe but very real metrics.

Wtf are you talking about? Denigrate? All I said was that in 2023 Barkley saved himself for FA and then you blew it way out of proportion as if I assaulted his character when more than half the league have admitted to doing so. Once Jones went down what was in it for Barkley to go all out? But I guess every other player takes the gas off on a losing team but Saquan Barkley.

Miles Sanders a very pedestrian running back for virtually the same offense had 1200 yards 11tds and got him paid to the tune of 25 million by Carolina and he can't even see the field for them. So it was a no Brainer that Barkley was going to do well, it still doesn't take away from the fact that his play dipped drastically from 2022 to 2023 and the advanced metrics showed that.

So in conclusion, you're more than welcome to have your own opinion of Barkley, and I am entitled to my own opinion. Thank you for pulling up previous statements of mine from a year ago so I could tell you that I feel the same way. 👊

Quote from: Philosophers on January 26, 2025, 05:27:32 PMFans should not lean into "stats" without context.  For example, maybe the Eagles WRs are ferocious blockers whereas the Giants WRs are terrible so Barkley has trouble busting runs outside or downfield.

I see an Eagles team in which each player is doing his job at a high level.  I just saw Barkley block out a DT on the Hurts TD.  How well a block would Tracy have done on a losing team?
From all the prospects we look at you should have a pretty good idea that I don't just go off numbers alone. The metrics are one thing, but his injury history, play in 2023, the amount of money he was wanting, along with the state of the Giants all go in to it. The Giants don't have the luxury of a 13 million dollar Rb right now. The Eagles team as a whole are ready made for the super bowl, so it was perfect for Barkley, along with Philadelphia normally getting the most out of older or average backs like Blount, Sanders, etc of course Barkley was going to be elite in a perfect situation. That's undeniable, I still personally believe he can be declining while also looking elite in said perfect situation but again that's my personal opinion. Not every person sees the same player the same way and that's cool.

When was the last time they had a QB with even half the talent this guy has?

Yeah that's true Dave, I don't see Daniels slowing down anytime soon.

Personally I think Jayden is gonna be a thorn in the Giants side for the next 15 years.

Agreed. He's a tremendous talent. Health is the only question mark in my mind.

Kirk Cousins was a decent QB. They didn't screw him up, they screwed the contract up. And the guy who did that is gone from the NFL.

Trench

If we take one of these kids at QB, I think Cousins would be the perfect bridge QB to teach them the ropes.

When was the last time an Organization took two QBs In the same draft that panned out. I mean RG3 would have if not for the injuries but Washington sold the farm for him and still got cousins in the same draft. I think more teams should double down until they get the guy especially in the current NFL.
