Quote from: kingm56 on February 06, 2025, 08:32:06 PMJeff, they may not have the actual votes (or they might be), but they're certainly aware of the arguments for and against.  I suspect it's fairly easy to glean the aggregate vote based on those conversations.

He just seems so matter of fact in this clip. I wouldn't go on the record presenting an educated guess as absolute fact like that myself.

Now if he does know for certain, then fair enough. But if that's the case, I'm curious how. I had no idea these writers know the results beforehand. I get that they have a better idea of the way the wind is blowing than the average Joe walking down the street, but going on the record with certainty like that about something you're not 100% certain about would be a strange move.

Fair enough, Jeff, and I agree.

We are better off not having Eli go in this year with this awful production we are watching. It's an embarrassment for the NFL.

They only put 4 guys in.  I don't think it gets easier next year

Trench

Make the other QBs wait a year also

Guarantees:
Fitzgerald
Witten

Painter

Sorry to have to say it, but not a surprise. Still, he sure would have added some pizzaz to something of a ho hum.

Cheers!

I think it becomes a bit easier simply by virtue of it no longer being his first year.

If you're a finalist in your first year or eligibility, you're clearly getting in at some point.

I'd also add once you're not a first ballot guy, whether you're 2nd year or 4th year is not something anyone really remembers or cares much about.

TBH, I never really understand the whole "1st ballot" thing, but I know it matters to some voters.  The fact they only put in 4 this year. IMO doesn't bode well.

I haven't been able to find how many votes he received, so if he is close now, it's likely to happen in the near future.

I think it's a stronger group next year than this year though.

The "1st ballot" argument is the dumbest part of all of this.  Is the guy a hall of famer in 5 years having played no football between then and now?  If the answer is yes, then he's a hall of famer now! If you don't think he's worthy now, then don't vote for him in 5 or 10 years either.  It's absurd to me to think there's a difference between 1st ballot hall of famer and just a regular hall of famer.

MrGap92

Bryant and Gurley on that list is laughable

And Olsen. I mean, c'mon?!

Yeah, Olsen was a really good TE for an extended period of time, but I wouldn't say his impact is anywhere close to a Gates, Witten, etc

I think those guys are listed for comparison purposes of all the 1st time eligible guys.  I think LeSean McCoy falls in the same category.

I don't think the 33rd is by any stretch suggesting any of those guys belong in the HOF.

No. They are simply listing who's eligible.
