Bowen should have been jettisoned after last year and either Patterson should have moved up or a new young DC hired

We had Martinez for a year I guess, guys like Jameel McClain and Jon Beason were also short lived, solid but not spectacular.

Just hasn't been a position of strength for us.

It's just very petty for a former player of Banks stature with the platform he has to make a such an alienating, hurtful and unnecessary statement.

He should be better

This is football, these are tough men, and he's not wrong. He is the best Mike since Pierce. His point however was the source was suspect.

Ed, I 100% agree with everything you stated and appreciate the debate. I just think it's beneath him to say it publicly as an elite Giant who also has a working relationship with the current players. Just because none of the former ILB weren't elite doesn't mean they didn't give all they had which is all we ask. I don't think Eli would ever publicly post something like that within the QB fraternity. Once a Giant, always a Giant wouldn't use the phrase Banks used. My own opinion as a huge Banks fan.

Except he isn't getting paid to be an elite Giant, he's getting paid to share his football knowledge. Very few know the linebacker position better than Carl. Players get critiqued by media all the time, it just so happens that this media person is a relative expert on the subject.
From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

But I think Banks stated that more as an ex Giant than a professional evaluator

He really fell off last year .but why? The scheme? Maybe. Was very good under Wink..Bowen is not showing me much.

This is a GREAT question!!!

Get rid of Bowen not our best LB
The 2 are not mutually exclusive.  He can be our best LB and still no be good enough.  I for one expected a lot more out of Okerke and have been disappointed.  Our Best LB?  Yeah, and every circus has a tallest midget.

Bobby Okereke played in 5 less games last season. He had 400 less snaps, all in the BOX. Relatively speaking, he was asked to play more coverage in Man/Zone than the previous season. He had 100 less Pass Rush Attempts, but his Pass Rush grade was 24 points higher than 2023. His tackling stats dropped by 40 tackles.

Bobby Okereke did what he was asked to do, and he was out 5 games due to injury. It ain't him. I agree, get rid of Bowen.

Bowen CLEARLY stunk up the joint last year. Took him 5 games to begin to make any sort of adjustment. Our DBs went backwards (especially Banks), Okereke went from snubbed Pro Bowl player to mediocre (and as stated before probably wasn't his fault), and I never ever saw so many runs for big yardage straight up the gut for huge gains (even when Dex was on the field)...not to mention Thibs non existent.

Bowen did not make us better.

Well none of us can presume his POV while making the statement.

I'll take his football expertise over a whole lot of ex-players as well as ex-coaches and all other media who cover football. I'm glad he made the statement because he's supporting Okereke in the process of stating the fact.

He was literally comparing a player to himself. I think it's safe to assume the point of view he was taking.

In all my years being a fan, I can't remember ever a time where an announcer compared another player to himself. It's kinda strange the more I think about it

I read his comment. He said that #58 was the last *real ILB* to wear Blue in 16 years....Do the math: Did Carl play 16 years ago? For that matter wasn't Carl an OLB? He was talking about ILB #58 Antonio Pierce.

I suggest you re-read his comments.

Ed: Great facts. They tell you all you need to know. Bowen's D and Okereke are not a perfect match. Bob
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!
