Walter Football signing grades

Giants sign DE Chauncey Golston (3 years, $19.5 million): B Grade

The Giants already had two dangerous edge rushers, but in a division with Jalen Hurts and Jayden Daniels, you can never have enough talent as far as pass rushers are concerned. Chauncey Golston hasn't done all that much in his career to justify this price tag, but he logged six sacks last season and showed potential. He's somewhat young (27), so perhaps he can continue to improve with the Giants. This signing makes sense and should be graded in the "B" range.

Giants sign CB Paulson Adebo (3 years, $54 million): C+ Grade

The Giants needed a top cornerback. They've decided to pay Paulson Adebo like a top cornerback, but I'm still not sure if they have a top cornerback.

Adebo played well for the Saints last year before breaking his leg in Week 7. He was a solid defender, but wasn't anything special. He play certainly didn't warrant this huge price tag. However, Adebo is young (26) and has talent, so perhaps he'll grow into the role. This is likely an overpay, however.

Giants re-sign WR Darius Slayton (3 years, $36 million): C- Grade

Giants fans hoping for their team to find an upgrade at receiver to complement Malik Nabers must be disappointed. Darius Slayton has been a mediocre producer for the Giants in the six years he's been with the team. That will continue on this colossal 3-year contract. I don't understand why the Giants believe Slayton is worth this sum of money, but we've seen some wild contracts given to receivers over the years, so I can't say I'm surprised to see something like this.

Walter Football pre-signing commentary

Jevon Holland, S, Dolphins. Age: 25.
Jevon Holland is a very athletic safety. He's coming off a down 2024, but had a tremendous 2023 campaign. He's only 25, so he should be able to rebound.

Darius Slayton, WR, Giants. Age: 28.

Re-signed with Giants (3 years, $36 million)

Darius Slayton has had some big games when he's served as the top receiver on the Giants.

15. James Hudson, OT, Browns. Age: 26. — Signed with Giants (2 years)

Chauncey Golston, DE, Cowboys. Age: 27.
Chauncey Golston improved as a pass rusher last year, notching six sacks.

56. Roy Robertson-Harris, DT, Seahawks. Age: 32. — Signed with Giants (2 years, $9 million)

39. Chris Board, ILB, Ravens. Age: 30. — Signed with Giants (2 years, $6 million)

Paulson Adebo, CB, Saints. Age: 26.

Signed with Giants

Paulson Adebo played well last year until breaking his leg in Week 7.

Very disappointing, as a whole, when you consider they spent all that $ and they've only upgraded 2 positions.

We have cap space but seem to be attracted to bargain basement players. I don't see this free agent haul moving the needle much if at all. Our biggest signee is coming of a broken femur. As a franchise with injury issues how does that make sense.

Jclayton92

Just for context, this is the weakest Free Agent class in a long, long time. I think the Giants have killed it so far. People that don't like Schoen and Daboll will xxxx on it regardless but they have attacked areas of need that everyone wanted them to attack.

Golson and Harris add much needed depth to the line for really cheap. Hudson offers us an actual swing tackle for the first time ever, resigning Slayton allows us to go into rhe draft without holes, or over pay for some elder wr. Jevon holland and Adebo completely transform our secondary and are great players.

@MightyGiants have you found the guarenteed money for any of these other deals? I saw Hollands was only 30 million which is a steal imo.

I couldn't find them seperately, but they are all on this team list

They still don't have the guarantees on there.

If it's currently zero, it's because the number is still unknown

When the line has been a problem as long as it has, the price tag can not be an excuse.

I would rather sign a guard for Slaytons 3 year 36 mill then have kept Slayton. You could probably of signed a Tevon Jenkins for that

I am kinda ambivalent with the FA signings . I don't think any of them moves the needle substantially. Maybe Holland does a little and possibly Gholston but other than that none thrill me .

This wasn't a great free agent class and teams had lots of money.  I didn't have very high expectations
