I wish we could have brought Azeez back instead of that Golston guy, and can do with the aging depth DT.

But should hopefully be an improved unit, with more surely to be added either in FA or draft.

Was Azeez signed elsewhere?
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

I think Azeez's inability to stay healthy has the Giants looking for alternatives.  I like himas I think he brings more juice than Thibs

Not sure what the deal with Okereke was last year, maybe he was just worn out. If he can get back to form, the D should be decent. Good players at every level.

We still need a LB that when he hits a ball carrier the Earth shakes. Frankly I want a defense that has numerous personal foul roughing calls, while giving up few points. In other words a smothering, destructive, we're going to intimidate you defense that doesn't give a crap about the league's phony protective rules which really was instituted to save the owner's asses from being sued further. If I were Mara I'd tell the defense go for blood I'll pay your fines and any money lost. I would own the Flagship, and there is nothing Goodell can do about it. I'm just ranting. However some of the greatest defensive players of all time would be fined and suspended a whole bunch in today's game. Think about that. Other than the unfortunate incident with Theissman, did LT ever really hurt anyone? During the 23' season Carter Coughlin made a perfect form tackle on a punt returner, and got FINED for it. I know safety, and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Again, I'm ranting. Thanks for listening.

Golson and Ojulari are ab the same age and Golson has equal production and doesn't have health concerns or problems. It's an upgrade for cheaper price than Ojulari in all likelihood.

I'm expecting a really impressive unit next year.

I don't remember the totals but they were playing well until Dex went down, save for
Week 1. They certainly kept them in games. I see no reason why they can't take a step with improved secondary play.

There's a real chance that Schoen has built a very good defensive unit over his tenure.

Lots of ifs and buts. But throw in better QB play, a year of a maturing for Tracey and I'm pretty stoked.

Why do you think John Mara was so hard on the defense in his off-season comments? He said he was tired of watching teams move the ball up and down the field on us. If they were playing well until the Dex injury, why would he say that?

Perhaps the outcome effect?

The first 10 weeks of the season they gave up an average of 20.3

Once they benched Jones, gave up on the season they gave up a hell of lot more.

I think if you get that weeks 1-10 level production, couple it with good QB, you're winning more games than you're losing.

The other thing is, the defense hasn't been terrible but the offense being bad makes them look much much worse. No defense can keep a modern NFL offense from scoring at all, but that's what they had to do to win last year before the injuries. Also, they are always on the field. Eventually this slows up the pass rush, guys just get gassed. It's also demoralizing, I think some of Banks issues last year were frustration with losing.

Score more, play complementary football, and see how the defense looks.

I think one of two things have to be true. Either Mara was right and you're giving the defense too much credit, or Mara's comments were off-base and he doesn't understand his own team. We'll learn more about this revamped defense in the fall, but it's hard to square a bullish view of last season with the owner's comments.
