Dumpster Dan

If there ever was a time that opinions differed on the BBH   more than today  I just dont remember

Cant we wait till FA is basically over before we express such strong and steadfast opinions?

I certainly am no expert   but so many of you obviously are.

I come on here hoping to find some perk me ups and all I get is really one--Jess

Sorry for the rant---it's just so discouraging

I am sorry, you are unhappy with BBH, Dan.

I put quite a bit of time and energy into providing the NYG free agent signings summary, and I think it was pretty helpful to fans.

I am also proud of the coverage provided in the QB market since it's a major issue for the Gants.

I even have a thread for other significant Non-Giants free agent signings.

I don't know what else I could do to provide important information for fans.

My take on NYG free agency at this point in time:

I think there is a significant upgrade (at least on paper) of the Giants defensive secondary.

I think there is potential that there is an upgrade of the d-line depth

Offensive line is a wait and see who they sign at guard.

Obviously the biggest FA issue is QB and that's to be determined

Dan: No need to apologize.

In the long run, about half of us will be shown to have been wrong about half of the time.

And the other half will be shown to have been wrong the other half of the time.  =))

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

FWIW...I think you do one hell of a great job Rich. You do a lot of research that I'm too lazy to do myself, and nicely summarize things for a fan like me  :ok:
The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing

My bad   I was NOT trying to indicate that you havent provided a nice forum

I am just disappointed that so many havent found anything to make them think that the Giants have made any sort of effort to improve

Has nothing to do wioth wjhat you have provided

Thanks

Dan: Other reason why no apology's necessary - you know the difference between differing and different. lol

Differing opinions are what drive the conversations.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Dan - our two worst positions were QB and OL.  We've done nothing meaningful to improve either.  Now what happens.  We get so desperate in the Draft we trade up to 1 and give up boatload of picks to move 2 places only setting us further back.  We have nothing to cheer about.

The guard market is stupid right now. Fries coming off a broken leg got 5 year 88 million deal. None of these guards are can't miss certainly at the price point that is out there. Better to wait a minute than end up with another solder. We added a solid swing tackle.

With respect, if you think you're entitled to only hear opinions that "perk" you up, you will always be disappointed on a message board. After a decade of wandering in the desert it's not going to be pretty.

Giants insiders are saying that we aren't going to be players at this price point for a good starting OG is frustrating. Our best FA so far is a solid corner coming off a major injury. He and Holland are the only starters the rest are role players. We've struck out at quarterback so far with the top options signing elsewhere. I hate to say it but ff we don't get either Wilson or Rodgers we are picking in the top 5 again next year. I wish I felt differently because it sucks to be a fan of a franchise who has been criminally inept at free agency since before Gettleman. Every year teams like Philly add really good players on cap friendly deals and we dumpster dive.

Most of us here didn't want to Schoen to go on a wild spending spree.

That's clearly what he's avoided with his moves yet he still gets any kudos.

I like what he's done.

1. The secondary has been improved and with the ability to cover ought to help a D line that was a very good sack unit until dex went down.

2. He didn't get involved and overpay Darnold.

3. He was interested in Fries but didn't want to move beyond his price point.

I think he's done a good job.

I don't understand the Slayton renewal. I would have preferred a late draft pick there but can't have everything.

I've loved what we have done so far.

Board- A Ravens team captain that had really good PFF grades when he has played to add good depth and special teams ace.

Golson- was super productive last year in his first full time year playing, is young, healthy, and gives us great depth to rotate him and Chatman at that DE position.

Roy-Roberts-smith isn't anything flashy but again great depth to rotate with nacho om the other side.

Jevon holland is a top 5-7 safety in thos league and we got him for 23 million less than Mckinney went for... super young and elite

Then you grab Adebo who would be the best corner in FA if he didn't have the broken leg for the same price the other guys got but only 30 million guarenteed which could end up being a HUGE steal.

Then we finally get a solid swing tackle in Hudson and it's barely mentioned. Schoen is actually adding young players on the rise for cheap contracts and everyone's first thought is to keep complaining even though schoen has spent the money extremely well.

Just imagine If we add Rodgers and a Teven Jenkins at RG. This could actually be a really solid team. I don't like Rodgers at all but he's clearly better than Wilson and it's not even close.

Also even the Slayton contract ended up being a steal. With an Aaron Rodgers, Slayton could easily be a 1,000 yard guy and you get him for what ends up being a 2yr 24 million dollar deal because he only got 22 guarenteed in the 3yr 36 million deal. So the contract once the numbers came in were actually team friendly.

Im pumped, no one wanted us to spend big, and schoen hasn't, he's been frugal signing some really good pieces. Everyone wanted us to have depth, and they finally bring depth in, and will probably add more, but now they aren't flashy enough. We already got great deals, but even if we don't on one in the next day or so, the cap goes up so much that every year the previous one looks like peanuts.

For a team where "no one" wanted to come to, and one of the weakest Free agencies ever, I think Schoen is absolutely killing it. If he goes out, and gets Rodgers, a starting RG, an Edge3, and a couple other cheap pieces then we have a full draft I will have a truck ton of optimism going into the season. Enough for @Dumpster Dan and myself.

Talking Giants guys should give you some pep @Dumpster Dan they see FA so far like I see it. Thought we got Slayton for cheap, and really like the depth, and Adebo signings.

What is getting me so far (and the offseason is just beginning) is that virtually nothing has been done to improve the offense.  I am good with the Slayton signing, but he doesn't improve the team, he is status quo.

Given that the draft is too heavily on defense, I am wondering what the game plan is to put together a functioning offense.

QB is obviously a gaping hole and I was really hoping the IOL would see at least 1 major upgrade- meaning either drafting or signing someone that is a top 10 or better at his position.

It's great they have hopefully solidified the back end of the defense and signed a guy that is supposedly good at setting the edge in the run game.  Unless the offense can score more than 15 pts/game I don't think it matters.
