The Giants were wise not to stop addressing the QB position after signing Jameis Winston last week. He now becomes their backup with the newly signed Russell Wilson leading the charge into 2025. Now we'll see if they want to add a rookie to the mix in April. Beyond their solid start at QB, the Giants made some nice moves on defense by adding safety Jevon Holland and cornerback Paulson Adebo while improving the depth of their front seven. The Giants weren't a QB away from anything significant, but they've quietly done a good job fortifying the roster at a position they still need to find a long-term answer for.

For THIS PHASE of the off-season, I really don't know how to quantify "winners" from "losers" apart from maybe net talent gained or net salary cap impact. There's no question they've executed off a strategic plan to improve depth and, where it was financially feasible to invest, splash on a bigger name talent who will likely roll into the starting lineup.

It's hard to argue against the fact they, at least on paper, addressed areas of need as well as gaps in depth. They also addressed the QB situation for 2025 by confirming the "bridge" strategy with two experienced signal callers with competence to execute Daboll's playbook and, as we will find out, possibly enable some additional to it based on the abilities of each QB they've signed.

So, in the end, sure, one can say "good job" for the moves they've made. But, pulling back and seeing the bigger picture, they really had no choice and this was to be expected anyway.

So, PHASE TWO of the player acquisition phase is the draft and undrafted free agent signing period in less than a month which will be the most important in their four cracks at the NFL Draft. They simply have to get it right and use their draft capital to improve the team better than they have ever done before. They need to find the players who are going to be bonafide starters today and depth who can become starters tomorrow. Anything less than that will not be acceptable.

What I would give anything to read is, one day, the press writes the Giants drafted far better than the benchmark of the league, the Ravens. When that day comes, I think Schoen will completely win over this forum for good.
