I like Schoen's process so far. I like that he is not allowing Mara to bully him into desperate decisions. I really do hope his picks work out. I really think he has a good vision and plan for how he wants the team to look. It took him some time to push back against Mara and I think/hope this is the year he proves his detractors wrong.

I was curious about this one:

Joe Schoen was asked why Brian Daboll isn't doing Pro Days this year. I reported last week Daboll's focus was on private workouts for the QBs.

Schoen says Daboll typically doesn't do Pro Days. Was at LSU Pro Day last year for Jayden Daniels because, essentially, Daniels wasn't doing private workouts for a team drafting at No. 6.

Their private workout with Michael Penix piggybacked UW Pro Day.

My thoughts on this. Picking a QB at three gives the player status, and it commands at least a certain amount of respect and priority compared to a QB drafted in the second round and especially later. It's just the reality of human nature. Not that it's a reason to draft a QB in the first round, but if the Giants did draft a QB at 34 when they had the opportunity to move up at least into the late, late (30-32) first round, it shows weakness in the player, and I have to wonder if it plays on the confidence level of the player coming in.

I guess the reverse way of looking at it is that QBs who are not drafted high have to earn their status and not just have it handed to them.

I would agree.

I will be shocked if they pick a QB at 3 (assuming it's not Ward).  Given Wilson and Winston that makes no sense.  May be a remote thrower moment.

When you are drafting, you should be focusing on not just this year's needs but also next year's.  Considering that Wilson is on a one-year deal, I think it's reasonable to say that there is still a need to draft a QB (it's just less than it was before signing Wilson and Winston)

Another way of looking at it is that if the guy isn't cutting it it is easier for the team to move on from a guy drafted at #34 than one drafted at #6.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Yes...but...it's a lot different passing on Hunter or Carter in order to take Sanders if you only have Winston or Wilson in the room already.  If you have both, you'd have to be pretty damn sure Sanders is a super star in the making to pass on guys who it would be considered shocking if they were NOT super stars in short order.

Everything they've done to this point indicates they're not too worried about the future right now.  So I fully expect the pick to be either Carter or Hunter.  They will probably draft a QB later in the draft perhaps the late 3rd rounder or 4th rounder.  But the first 3 picks I would guess are players that they believe at least MIGHT start from day 1.

I agree, with the addition of Wilson and Winston, Schoen and Daboll shouldn't feel a need to "reach" for Sanders to fill a need.  The may still draft him because they believe he will become a good franchise QB, but the pick shouldn't be out of desperation

If they draft Sanders, its my opinion that they were told to by Mara or believed that they had to because of his public (and unnecessary) proclamation about getting a franchise QB this year.  Either is not good

I wouldn't believe that.  Frankly, considering they are on the hot seat, they should be fired if they don't do what they think is best for the team.
