If I recall, they tried it last offseason.  It took longer with the electronics than it did the chain gang

Rich: That's what they said.  It may have been something else, or it possibly never occurred to them how important a single measurement could be until this year's playoff game between the Bills and Chiefs. lol

This is certainly good news, although to my knowledge the technology is not there to determine the measurement when the ball is under a pile of men. So those situations will still be up to the refs, as I understand it. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Wasn't this an absolute disaster in the preseason and took longer than traditional measuring? Let's hope they get the kinks out before the season starts.

I think the technology only accurately measures 10 yards.  The officials still spot the ball, as I understand. The system then measures "exactly" 10 yards from the last spot and whether the ball traveled 10 yards.

It will save time, so they can get more commercials in.

Don't know for sure but my guess is the answer is yes.  When it comes to spotting the ball, I'm reminded of Madden's classic line "left foot, right foot" when he would discuss the arbitrary randomness employed by refs when deciding where the runner went down
