Quote from: Ed Vette on April 26, 2025, 07:57:04 AMI disagree. I believe they were in love with him, but they had a potential generational player on their laps, and knowing from their Intel, they could get Dart later that round or in the 34th slot. The risk of losing Dart was acceptable to getting Carter. Doesn't mean they didn't love Dart. LT vs Simms? LT all the way.

I get your point, but no one questions the Titans taking Ward over Carter or Hunter, because of the positional value of QB, and a good QB prospect is a bit of a trump card.  I have no doubt the Giants like like Dart, they just didn't have the sort of "full bloom love" that (as you said) they weren't willing to risk losing Dart to another team

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 26, 2025, 07:56:41 AMI agree, being drafted 25th hardly is a career death sentence.  As for getting on the field, it will be interesting.  If the Giants are out of the playoff hunt by their usual Halloween/Thanksgiving, do the Giants put Dart in to get him reps to develop?

I think they probably would Rich. I would be surprised if he is on the field (as a starter) before November, but if they are something like 4-8, he could easily go in. We also may get glimpses of him in fourth quarters if the outcome of the game is no longer in question (albeit this data will be less meaningful than watching him in a full game as a starter).

In terms of the depth chart, I am expecting Dart to be third, behind Winston. Would you agree? I guess this means we have to carry three QBs on the 53 this year? I really don't think they'd make Dart QB2 on day one. If he's not ready to be a starter, why would they make him the backup? And why did they sign Winston if that was the plan?

The drafting of Dart sort of makes the Winston signing a bit of overkill.  As you said, they will need to keep three QBs on the roster this year, and Winston will be the obvious backup candidate.  I wonder if DeVito has any trade value.

Rich, remember that the Giants had Wilson and Winston. Tenn has Levis, Boyle and Allen. Quite frankly, I didn't see Ward as worthy of the #1 Pick and to your point I have to accept that the Giants were willing to give up next year's first rounder to get Ward. They must have loved his high ceiling and superior arm. I'm curious to see who has the better career.

I am very happy with the Giants and how they handled the first round.....Carter was a must pick ...did some say at some point that they would not have been too upset if Giants took Sanders at 3...???
Dart was ranked as # 2 QB prospect for some time now (by many ) they knew that Dart would fall to middle late first....moving up to get him for what they gave up is a very good deal and settles the QB room for some time. and not having to go through QB crap in next years draft,
Dart has all the skills needed to be a very good Nfl QB.
There no can't miss QB's in first round ever...does Dart have many things to work on ...? yes, but his skill set allows the Giants to bring him along at a good pace...
And to all the QB experts ...Day #3 and Sanders still on the board....??
Personally , I wanted Dart all along ...so I am very happy at this point...

That's a good question for you media folks out there. Why were the giants targeting Ward and willing to give up a first, or was that rumor false?

I think there is a general perception that it's just a player's grade that gets them ranked.  I suspect the reality is it's the player's grade multiplied by positional value.  QB value is significantly higher than any other, so that's why the Giants wanted Ward over Carter or Hunter

Rich...trade tommy.  no one will take him.  but Winston might bring something from a qb desperate team if they don't get a guy in the draft.   Pit and Cle [his old team] come to mind.

Trading Winston (on a 2 year deal) would cause a $2.5 million dollar cap hit

Seeing that DeVito cleared waivers in each of the last two seasons and was bad in games last year, I cannot see how anyone would give up anything at all for him. I'd be shocked, and even a 7th rounder would feel like a win.
