Quote from: ViewFromSection129 on April 25, 2025, 09:51:11 PMThis is the only downside to the pick. He's pretty old already.  But the value and need is perfect.

129: I hadn't noticed your post & also noted that he'll be 25 by the time the season starts.

But beggars cant' be choosers. We were darn lucky he was still there.

Depending how you count, eight or nine DL's went in Round 2.

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

Talking to three different defensive coaches at the moment. First time this has happened since covering NFL ...

All three said the exact same thing when I asked them about #Giants DT Darius Alexander: "Love him."

Why? Might be a rotational player to start, but has ability to develop into a three-down guy who's equally as disruptive against the run as he is pass. Crazy athlete who "hasn't even scratched surface of what he can become because of scheme, school."

That defensive front Joe Schoen is building looks really, really scary.

Quote from: Philosophers on April 25, 2025, 09:42:04 PMWhat a draft so far.  We have a DL that is as close to Eagles talent and depth as anyone in the NFL.

Ley's grab an OL player or big threat RB.

If Carter is indeed Micah parsons 2.0

And Alexander can help clog the lanes on run downs

I dare say we may have a better front 7 than the eagles

Quote from: Brooklyn Dave on April 25, 2025, 09:47:24 PMFRom what I read he is more of a pass rusher than a run stopper.

This is not accurate.

"A stout run defender, he ranked 11th nationally with 27 stops and a 90.3 run defense grade that ranks 3rd in FBS behind only Mason Graham and Walter Nolen."

This Giants defense should be an absolute problem for just about every opponent. The offense doesn't need to put up 30 points a game. 20 might be more than enough. With even semi-competent QB play they should be able to get to 20 most days.

I really like this pick. The right position if we are trying to build a strong D. I don't care about his age in R3. Hopefully he can make the step up to NFL and beat out our journeymen vets to nail down 3T.

Alexander is a get-off..power athlete..he can move in the pass rush game..lots to like from his tape..long arms..explosive. The knock may be his level of competition with Toledo..but should impact and work into a rotation almost immediately.

He is quicker than I thought. The Giants D has to get into more third and longs..get takeaways..get off the field..the run defense must..must improve..and they know it.

Rich: I haven't mentioned this stuff due to level-of-competition issues.

It was a factor. Virtually every better-than-decent DL who played at a major school went before him.

IMO, he essentially is already a pro football player. Has been in school five years, during which, so far I can determine, he still didn't choose a major field of study. In other words, it's tough to conclude that he's in college for any reason other than the chance to play football and make that his career.

IMHO, one of the best picks in the 2nd round was OT Ozzy Trapilo by the Bears. I was really hoping he'd fall into the 3rd and become a NY Giant  :(

Not knocking the Giants' pick as I think our defensive line is moving towards the best in the NFL, so I'm glad we got Alexander. I just really, really wanted Trapilo

Nobody was more happy to draft Darius Alexander than DL coach Dre Patterson and assistant DL coach Bryan Cox.
Both told Alexander they hope they land him.

Schoen did. Time to work.

This kid dominated the Senior Bowl. This kid is loyal, staying at Toledo when he could have transferred. Love everything about this pick.
