If the Cowboys or Eagles had the FA/Draft we did, then it would have been the resurrection of the 85 Bears defense everywhere in the media. I completely agree that talent needs time to gel and become a team but even if you take 5 minutes to put up each team I listed our depth chart is comparable or easily better.

I just get burnt out that we are laughed at as an organization(I understand some of that is earned with the play on the field) but when the organization does get it right and Aces Free Agency and the Draft it doesn't move the needle at all. We replaced half a football team with upgraded talent and we haven't moved at all in 99% of rankings.

We added at minimum 6 immediate impact players, with 3-4 having the potential to be elite in free agency.

We follow that up with 5 immediate impact Rookies in the draft with all of them having a high ceiling.

That's 11 new starters out of the possible 22. Yet evert ranking post draft has us in the bottom 3 typically. I understand having to see it to believe it, but most have stated we have the potential for a top 5 defense with an actual NFL starter at Qb. I dont think its a stretch to think that on paper, in my opnion, we are better than the Browns, Jags, Colts, Jets, Falcons, Panthers, Patriots, Saints, Titans, Cownoys, and Raiders.

Fan optimism or new reality?

I think it's a little of both, optimism, but also realistic. Besides all the new players, we're a different team than last year with a healthy Thomas at left tackle, and we were just beginning to realize the potential of Theo Johnson before his injury setback on Thanksgiving. Even though his rookie season was cut short, he still put up 332 yds on 29 catches. He's not only bigger than the average TE in the NFL, he's a freak athlete, just learning the nuances of the NFL game. He was declared fit for practice in March and has been getting in shape, so there's that. Not to mention, we also lost Dex the last five games of the season

A healthy Thomas and Dex will go a long way towards respectability, and if Theo is 100%, and desperate to prove himself...you can add the return of those three to all the newbies which should add a shock-boost to the Giants this season...IMHO
You can never actually lose a homing pigeon - if your homing pigeon does not return, what you've lost is a pigeon

This is a silly comparison as it is 2024 based on actual performance vs 2025 hypothetical performance.

Okay, I am game.  What were the top 10 players coming into 2020 based on their hypothetical performance?  Did it seem significantly better than the actual?
