Quote from: Doc16LT56 on June 01, 2025, 10:47:29 AMPitts was once talked about as the second coming. He turned out to be the second coming of Evan Engram. A good example of why it's not worth getting too excited about draft picks before they prove it on the field.

This is why I have to roll my eyes when I see young fans talk about our draft picks as if they're all can't miss. After a few decades of watching guys who on paper should be elite, but turn out to be major disappointments you start to understand just how difficult the draft really is. More picks will fail than will become big time players.

Here's how PFF praised the pick after the Falcons drafted him 4th overall:

The Falcons take the best non-quarterback in the draft with their selection of Florida tight end Kyle Pitts. He is going to be faster than any linebacker or safety and bigger than any cornerback. He enters the NFL as already one of the biggest matchup nightmares for a defense. His 96.1 receiving grade, 0% drop rate and above-average run-blocking grade in 2020 make him one of the best all-around pass-catchers we've seen in a while.

They said the same thing about Engram.  The reality is that these oversized WRs trying to play TE simply don't work out.  First, they can't handle the blocking part of the job.  Secondly, most OCs don't have plays in their playbooks that take advantage of these WRs trying to be TEs.  Plus, if they did, what happens if that TE gets hurt?  What do you do with your special playbook you installed?

That's a good reason not to sign an expensive TE.

Quote from: Painter on June 01, 2025, 11:53:48 AMAs the Falcons decided to pick up Pitts' fifth-year option, he is owed $10.88MM in 2025 which would make an expensive addition and almost certainly require at least a short extension. He has not done enough in his past three seasons to warrant anything of the sort. And why at this stage would you want to make a deal that might force your Offense to justify the decision, the investment? It just not where this team is right now, I don't think so, I'm a NO vote.

Cheers!

That's another good reason not to trade for him.

Yikes, Chris. That bad, huh? I didn't even consider that in thinking about a trade for Pitts.

In any event, I reckon this is when they find out if there is anything at all to the notion that it will be a "breakout" year for Theo Johnson. No opinion on that myself but I do see him as the TE1 with Fidone making the 53-man along with someone else not named Bellinger who, with the addition of Skattebo, will have lost whatever value he may have had as blocking TE cum FB.

Cheers!

Pitts is a bum, he looked all world in college had a good rookie year. He looks like he doesn't even want contact anymore. Maybe flag football szn?!? I dunno. This guy sux, i agree with everyone here. All world talent. At Florida he was insane. Some of these dudes, they get a check with a bunch of zeros and they are out.

I think something more applicable to this situation is the ridiculous trade rumors and clickbait xxxxxxxx that gets posted about this team. It's all like sifting through trash. Let's see the play on the field. Tired of the smoke and mirrors garbage. I don't believe the hype, i believe what i see.

The problem is that it is hard to find any TE now that's isn't in that oversized WR mold. All the elite TEs right now are in that same height weight area.

Evan Engram and Kyle Pitts are in that 6'3/6'4 247lb range.

So is...

Sam LaPorta
Isaiah Likely
Trey Mcbride
Dalton Kincaid
Colston Loveland

Giants 49ers is on NFL network. What a classic game. Feels so weird to see Eli throwing to Victor Cruz. In Monterey I was at a 49ers party and slept in my Porsche turbo with pizza crust all over the dashboard the next morning . I have zero clue what happened besides we won and people were mad at me. Had to get them back, out of respect for Trey Junkin lol

Another "match-up nightmare" coming out of college that has done very little.  Whenever I hear that term used to describe a TE heading into the draft, I put him on the "do not draft" list.

Question- has been there been any talk of the Giants interest in Pitts?  Or, is this a general conversation about his worth?

There have been articles from internet sources, but nothing substantial from our beat reporters. Just baseless speculation.
