Tiki Barber: Daniel Jones went "into a shell" when challenged by Daboll... Jaxson Dart can take it

The difference in nature and temperament between Dart and Jones is so obvious and dramatic, it's hardly worth comment. Indeed, there no longer is any reason to even mention Danny Dimes. Also referred to as Vanilla Vick?

Cheers!

When he is not carrying a football for us, I just don't like Tiki Barber otherwise.

Guys here are right, why even talk about Jones? It's more of the "xxxx on DJ  when he is gone, Russ is the savior!" hype reel for 2025. Just feels scammy. When was Jones ever emotional when mad or happy? He was all very steady and that was actually celebrated by the team for a long time as a good quality.

But now, I guess he didn't have a reaction to daboll being a XXXXX. So he is a total bum again. Another thing..... as a head coach, you are the teacher and leader. He should be adapting to the players ON AND OFF the field. Even the way the video cuts out right at the mention of his contract is just scummy. They paid him, willingly. I really don't care for all these team narratives using the local media as their mouthpiece. Jaxson Dart is a young man, I can see things going sideways with Daboll too, on a personal level. They are trying to throw a patsy out there, wink, jones, Bowen, Gettleman, they are running out of people to blame. Like, really they need to do at this time of the year? Maybe in January, but now it's just pathetic.

What Tiki talked about in terms of contract was similar to what Mike Lombardi talked about.  Both men faulted Schoen for not letting Daniel Jones test the market.  The argument that by not letting DJ test the market they were essentially bidding against themselves.   Now there is a risk of losing DJ if you let him hit the market, but both seem to think that risk wasn't much of a concern.

We let Barkley test the market....how'd that work out?

We offered Barkley more than the Eagles paid for him, no matter what he was leaving.

I think it's worth considering the nuance in that comparison.  An RB's value is somewhat dependent on where the team is in terms of talent and contending.  A team (like the Eagles) with tons of talent and routinely contending will find far more value in Barkley than a team like the Giants, who lack talent and is rarely contending (hopefully this claim is becoming obsolete).

So when you let Barkley hit the open market, there were teams that could pay more than the Giants could while retaining value.  So it was somewhat a given that letting Saquon test the market would likely mean he was gone.

QBs, on the other hand, are players all teams have an equal need for.

Are we really comparing Barkley's marketability to Danny?! C'mon!
From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

Funny how none of these visible ex-Giants or team shills had a less than complimentary thing to say about Jones while he was here, but now that he's gone he's fair game for pot shots and little digs.

It's to be expected, but the takeaway should be that there is a lot of empty praise thrown around about incumbents.

The last two seasons confirmed what everyone knew regarding Daniel Jones' limits vs. the Head Coach's objectives. The bottom line was that despite doing everything possible to make it work, the two simply could not create a winning combination despite how hard Jones tried to make it work and the patience of Job on Daboll's part. We've beaten the horse to pulp as to why not and, therefore, it's pointless to do it again. It didn't work out. Jones deserves all the credit for giving everything he had, and being a classy professional through it all, and departed the Giants with his class and dignity intact. Daboll, as well, has been in the crosshairs and survived what was essentially a "no-win situation" and has now been "rewarded," for lack of a better term, the choice of picking his own QB to develop and become the face of the Giants franchise for the next decade and change.

Daboll came to this organization with a vision to build, develop and have an athletic version of "him" under center. Now that Jaxson Dart is here, Daboll's choice, NOW we're finally going to see the Head Coach deliver what he sold to Mara, Tisch and Schoen before being offered the Head Coaching position in 2022.

So, yes, I would agree with Tiki that Dart IS a better fit for Coach Daboll and Coach Kafka.  Dart IS Daboll's and Kafka's guy. Eli Manning was Coughlin's guy. Simms was Parcells' guy (NOTE: though it took a little time for Bill to figure that one out).

Peace!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

It wasn't a comparison in marketability.  It's was trying to point out the fallacy of letting a player to test the market and thinking he'll come back. Let me ask. If your employer let you go and said, test the market and I'll match the offer. Would you go back  to the employer that let you go even if he could match the offer?

We seem to forget/ignore the fact DJ, who was originally John Mara's vision of a new Eli, managed to somehow fool everyone involved by delivering just the second winning season in a decade, followed by a win over Kurt Cousins and the Vikings, the first PO win since 2011, and with it the COTY Award for first time HC Bian Daboll.

And oh sure, Schoen and Daboll shoulda, woulda, coulda let our new hero test the market and thus risk the ire of  Giants fans including John Mara in an effort to see if they might last as long as McAdoo, Shurmur, and Judge.

Can I ask for a favor like C.O.T.S ?

Cheers!

Unless, of course, Mara starts the process of screwing him up by getting rid of Daboll and making Dart start over with a new set of coaches and visions.  I worry that Mara might be the scorpion in the story of the frog and the scorpion.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

I thought it was ridiculous bordering on idiotic to sign two guys(Schoen/Daboll) because they got it right when they chose in Buffalo and never give them the opportunity to do it here.
