I'm thinking about creating a passkey for my Google account and some third party apps. Some say passwords are not that safe anymore. Anyone use a passkey and like it?

I created a passkey and it has screwed up my computer beyond belief. I've spent have the day trying to get rid of it, but everything from Amazon to GMail to games I like, stop me and the passkey I made doesn't work. Even this site logs me out if I go away for a few minutes. Passkey sucks, sucks, sucks  :angryfire:

Passwords, and the need to have 4 million of them, all with 8 different rules about capital and lower case letters, number, special symbols, can't be any of your last 10 passwords, etc), even for incredibly low risk stuff like my gym membership, feel so beyond antiquated now. Everything should be biometric at this point. I can't believe they haven't been made completely obsolete by now.

Ric, Sorry about that. I feel bad for bringing up this topic.

Don't feel bad. I ignored this post when it was up. But I kept getting dogged by Google to get a passkey and I thought, "why not". Then everything got wiped and I was unable to get back into the dozens of sites I belong to from Amazon to my own Gmail account. The Passkey that I created, didn't work and until I could sign in, I couldn't get in to double-check if I didn't get the pw correct, and there was no way to correct the problem

Anyway, after this issue I thought, "huh, I think there was a thread started on BBH about it, I'll check it out to see if anyone else has had issues". So, you didn't prod me into it, I only checked out the thread after I did it myself...and I regret doing it. Lost all my previous best scores on Daily Sudoku, my WORDLE streak and everything else was wiped, etc. I hate losing a day or two of my life because of a stupid computer issue. Too old and uninterested in advancing my technical knowledge in the world of computers. There was a time when I lived for it...extreme in the 80's, very interesting in the 90's, interesting in the 2000's, far more irritating than interesting in the 2010's, now...boring as hell and irritating when anything goes wrong on my computer
