Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 01:44:48 PMThe evolution of the angry Giants fan:

2019

I am angry that the Giants drafted Daniel Jones with the 6th pick in the draft just to draft a QB.

2024

I am angry that the Giants DID'T draft a QB with the 6th pick just to draft a QB.

While there are probably some individuals who feel this way, I believe it is a real minority. In my experience, most Giants fans, including ones who think highly of Jones as a starting NFL QB and ones who don't, didn't want the Giants to take the fourth QB off the board sixth overall. Particularly once it was clear their front office didn't think highly enough of McCarthy as a prospect to do so. If anything, people are probably angrier that that they didn't end up with a top three pick despite being so clearly terrible last season.

The Pats and Panthers look like the worst teams to me.

I'd struggle to keep the Giants out of the bottom four though. I thought we were worse than our 6-11 record last year, and I am not convinced the team improved in the offseason overall (yes we gained a couple of very talented players but we also lost three).

I'd probably go (in order of badness):

1. Pats
2. Panthers
3. Broncos
4. Giants

I think there is a bit of a gap between the two worst teams and the next group though. I don't put the Broncos in the same tier as the Panthers and Pats.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on Today at 01:07:27 PMHe didn't know there had been a fatal accident and it is routine for players to bypass cars lined up to get in.  I'm sympathetic to his situation because years ago I come up on a scene where there were lanes closed, detours, and contradictory 'Keep Left' and 'Keep Right' signs and  I was confused and found myself in the wrong place.  I got screamed at by one of the construction guys.  But they're the ones that created the confusing situation.

That said, what kind of idiot tries to stop a car by grabbing on to it.  The overcharging was ridiculous.  And it is to Scoottie's credit that he had the mental strength to birdie his first hole and go on to shoot 66 to be t4 after the round.  And WHY wasn't the cops' bodycams turned on?

Yeah I wasn't saying the cop(s) did a good job here. Clearly that wasn't the case. More just that this incident could have easily been avoided. Bottom line, even if this cop was an idiot, Scheffler still put his foot on the gas after being told to stop. I would say that was a momentary lapse in judgment on his part. So was driving an extra 15 yards (per eyewitness Jeff Darlington) when the guy had (stupidly, I agree) "attached himself" to the car.

Stuff happens though, and this isn't the end of the world. If this is the worst mistake he has ever made in his life then he is probably in the 99.8th percentile of most virtuous people in the world.

I like Scottie Scheffler and think he's a genuinely good guy, but this could have been avoided by simply complying with the initial instructions.

Quote from: coggs on May 17, 2024, 07:07:04 PMLet's just say I have been very good at the reverse jinx this year.  I mention a player is playing like xxxx and then he scores.  Yesterday at end of 2nd I said, "time to work your magic." Texted my wife to ask if she wanted to go to the game on saturday.  Hit send, and I knew we were good.

On a serious note, they have been the best comeback team in the league this year and "momentum" can shift VERY quickly.  Hence why the analytics people do not believe in momentum or players being hot and cold as an indicator of a future outcome.

Ok, fair enough.

So maybe the three of us in this thread putting those emotional posts up in-game contributed in some cosmic way to the comeback then lol.

I'm rooting for the Bruins hard tonight. Even if the Panthers end up winning the series, I want the Rangers to have an edge on the rest/recovery/practice front. At this stage in the playoffs every day matters IMO. I remember when we beat the Hurricanes in seven in the second round two years ago and then had to start the series against the Lightning two days later. Yes, we did get up 2-0 in that series, but we were pretty worn out by game three. Hopefully that won't be the case this time.

That win was magical last night though. Definitely one of the most thrilling I have seen from this team in 40 years as a fan.

Quote from: ozzie on May 17, 2024, 12:41:04 PMthe bottom line is they just want to make money. It's getting ridiculous

I am in no way trying to be a smart-ass here, but is that not true of any large, for-profit business?

Quote from: katkavage on May 17, 2024, 04:59:00 PMI wouldn't be shocked if he starts the first 3 games. Not sure DJ will be ready until October.

All I have read/heard is that Jones' rehab is on track and is expected to not only be ready for week one but to be ready for camp. If there has been any different reporting than that, I must have missed it.

Since Jones' actual production and numbers have been poor to mediocre overall, if one is a believer that he's not a poor to mediocre starting QB, one must, by default, have the view that other players around him are poor to mediocre. Either way, whichever view you personally take, you're criticizing players on the Giants' offense. You're either saying the offensive linemen and receivers suck, or you're saying Jones sucks (or both). Why are those who are critical of Jones not real fans, but those who claim Jones is good but everyone else around him sucks are? Both groups of people are "shitting on" players on their football team (to use Banks' elegant language). How is the second group of fans more real than the first?

I also fully agree with other posters that there is a very big difference between observing the performance of a player and being critical of it and rooting against said player. I would assume, or hope at least, that most regulars in this forum are able understand that difference.

I personally think they got Lock because they wanted a more durable backup than Taylor given DJ's own lack of durability. I doubt they view Lock as a potential alternative long term solution to DJ, but obviously I don't know for sure what's going on inside their minds.

Lock may never even see the field this year. I suspect he probably will for one reason or another, but we certainly don't know that. So it's unclear if he'll even have the opportunity to prove he's better than what he has shown so far in this league.

Quote from: coggs on May 16, 2024, 11:02:49 PMSometimes I wonder if Rangers fans have actually watched this team all season.  They won 55 games for a reason and have not had a long losing streak all season.

If you knew this team was winning this game during the second intermission, kudos to you, but feel free to share that prediction in real time next time. Any dope can call people out with the gotchas after the fact.
