Quote from: T200 on Today at 09:15:00 AMWe need a dominant edge rusher. Someone who can apply pressure to the QB but is also stout in run defense and knows how to set the edge.

We also need a shutdown DB.

Think we are close to having those in Burns and Banks.  Far away from the other positions I noted.

Quote from: WheresDayne on Today at 09:31:28 AM19 teams had a 10+ sack performer last year.  Wow.

2 thing I think are big factors:

1)  more passing
2)  more "mobile" QBs trying to extend plays.

Coincidentally, I think like 70 different guys started a game at QB last year.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Preseason QB rotation
Last post by kartanoman - Today at 09:27:29 AM
I remember back in the era of the 14-game schedule when they had six pre-season games and QBs often had most of a game to be evaluated and the final quarter was rotated if the game wasn't close.

Aren't the Giants going to practice with the Lions once again this season? I would think this is another opportunity for the QBs to face opposition and be evaluated comparably to the pre-season games. After last season's performance, I would imagine the Giants have learned that the joint practices could be a valuable opportunity to push and evaluate players, to include their QBs, under near real-time scenarios and get their energy up as close to game day but managed for player safety.

So, the opportunity will be there and I believe this pre-season will look and feel a little bit different than last season. I am expecting to see more motivation, sense of attention to details and energy. But, we'll have to wait and see.

Peace!

If they would have done this 30 years ago, I would have volunteered to do it for 🥜.

But, you bring up a good point. Initially, it might seem the kicker is in the middle of the action; however, he is actually deep behind the action. Reference the article below:

2024 New Kickoff Rule

I hope this helps explain it along with the figures showing the formations prior to kickoff.

I think for this team to hum, the following needs to happen:

RB - either we need a rotation of 2-3 very good RBs or one needs to be a standout.  We can't have a rotation of 3 average RBs.  That gets nothing done except spreads around mediocrity.  I am really hoping Tracy becomes that standout along with Singletary so we have a solid 2 RB platoon.

WR - We have Ferraris.  It is time to tune their engines then let them race.  If they were on the Miami Dolphins or Kansas City Chiefs, you can bet those head coaches would be trusting them more and getting them more opportunities.

TE - I am betting here on Theo Johnson.  I see old school Giants TE in this kid.  Love the Penn State bloodline.  I like Bellinger, but I think his ceiling is lower.  We need high ceiling players coached up to that ceiling.  Again, give this kid a chance.

OL - Play the veterans and get them into the starting lineup NOW so a unit forms and gets reps. Stop with this "experimenting."  Eze is a backup until proven otherwise so stop giving him starting minutes in practice.  Again, a unit needs to form.  If team is committed this year to Neal at RT, then play the best RG next to him.  If Neal fails by game 3, get him out.

Defense

I simply think this unit will be fine.  The addition of Burns, continued development of Thibs and consistency of Dex along with Okereke behind them makes this unit good.  Banks will be that much better.  Lock down the other boundary CB and get Phillips and Nubin the reps they need to make them starters and go from there.

Conclusion

The standouts to elevate this team need to be primarily from the offensive side of the ball as the defense should be ok.

Now Dallas is going through the same thing. But they're trying to do all they can to put a positive spin on it and acknowledge they're still in the window and winning it all requires these kind of disappointments for a few years before tasting ultimate success.

So, I guess the honest question Drury has to ask is whether the Rangers are still in the window and, if so, what can he do to get the Rangers over the hump and win it all? Or, are the Rangers going to be stuck at one better than Carolina and that's about it?

Meanwhile the press only has Florida vs. Connor McDavid as the headline to the finals; just pure lame. Those teams are better than that, but the matchup is a yawner for all except south Florida and Canadian Pride, I guess.

Whoopie!

Peace!
