I think DeVito should be the starter, not Jones or Lock

Those two have issues and should fight it out for the back up positions
Both guys have talent but have spotty to suspect NFL records

DeVito has poise and the it factor. The Dallas loss was a joke, and he was replaced after what I assume was an undisclosed
head injury from targeting by the worlds champs of targeting- New Orleans.  I wonder if they still pay bounties

Of course it matters not what anyone of us think.  Mara, Schoen, and Daboll will decide who plays

Jones may suprise us but after 5 years of futility its not looking good

The definition of insanity is to keep repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

Jones would be a terrific change of pace against teams vulnerable to the QB run.

Jones has all the tangibles but seems shell shocked from all the pressure and sacks he's taken over the years

Reports are that Lock also has pocket poise issues

Only Tommy D seems to be able to remain calm in there whatever is thrown at him

If DeVito is exposed to waivers I suspect he will be taken in a NY minute, and I believe
NE will grab him.

Quote from: Ed Vette on May 26, 2024, 08:43:32 AMThis is what he does. Feel honored he even took the time. You bring this xxxx upon yourself with outrageous statements as the preponderance of fact. You do however, provoke discussion, even if it is to expose the lunacy. I have seen marked improvement and there is some wisdom tucked in there. So to that point keep up the good work. If you didn't exist, Rich would have to invent you.

Just teasing you, man. 🥸

Taken in good spirit

My critiques to the contrary Ed Im feeling good about this season.

Reasons-

- Schoen has had the time to wash many of the laggards out of the team and brought in talent
- Best 3 QBs we have had on the roster as a group since the Phil Simms days- real competition
- the team is young but more experienced than the past few years
- The RB position is open and I expect good rotation and thus less predictable than 50%     of the play to Barkley
- I expect Daboll to take more play calling control this season as his axe is on the line
- less brutal schedule than last year
- we cracked the Philly code last year and should do the same this with the Boys
- Best set of WRs and TEs since maybe ever

Caveat- We need huge upgrade in Special Teams- Have no idea what's going on there

Finally, We are due....time to at least reclaim the NFC East Crown

Go BLUE!!

Quote from: Painter on May 25, 2024, 01:23:58 PMIt would seem that there really is no need nor good reason for you continue to post here, wouldn't you say? This place is fast becoming little more than wet rag city.

Cheers! or maybe not.

Cheers to you
but no need to hurl insults my friend
Being a Giants fan can elicit frustration of late. I'll chalk it up to that
enjoy your day

Quote from: sxdxca38 on May 23, 2024, 06:37:08 PMHi,

Im sure you're a nice person and I mean you no harm by this, but you just predicted that Devito will be the next Tom Brady.

One of, if not the greatest QB of all time, are you sure you want to stand by this prediction?

By that I meant the NE starter and bring them back to relevance
He has the intangibles that made Brady good and its between the ears, confidence etc
His arm is also grossly underrated

We have never had much luck with QBs    Some have been good, none dominant in a Brady, Montana type sense

We will find a way to fumble Tommy D away- just watch

Quote from: Jclayton92 on May 25, 2024, 08:10:56 PMDevito carried a water bottle to the bench with him at the end of last season.

Don't quit your day job.

This is a good thing.  Sonny Jurgenson was not athletic and thrived so I think you have to factor in talent.
Eli Manning moved around like he was pushing a wheelbarrow.

Where are we on the relative talent scale?  Id say bottom third, to hazard a guess
but improving

Under Joe Judge I'd say we were bottom of the pack

Quote from: Painter on May 25, 2024, 10:35:24 AMIf those comps were to mean something, we'd better hope that Jones stays healthy as Cutler, Gabbert, and Lock have managed to produce just 2 winning seasons over a combined 28 years in the League. Not exactly a high bar for DJ who is already half way there.  ;)

Cheers!

I don't know if you can teach situational awareness and composure
You are either born with it or not

We know Jones pretty well and I don't see he has made any advancement in either category

Perhaps actually regressed.  The OLINE and a poor running game for his tenure have not helped him at all.  He has faced incredible pressure.....But Taylor and DeVito faced the same pressure and yet moved the ball better.

I think Schoen and Daboll may have signed their own pink slips with their handling of the QB position.....unless Mara is really calling the shots.  Be that the case,  Mara can only blame himself

This report from TDscouting.com back before the 2019 draft where Lock was supposed to be a top ten pick and dropped to the second round going to Denver.

He appears to be an enigma.  Everyone, it seems, agrees he is a great downfield passer but lacks a lot of the other aspects of the QB position.

Parcells quoted "QB is 90% between the ears".  Both this guy and Jones lack "Situational Awareness".  Tommy on the other hand seems calm and poised.

Jones is a "runner" Lock a "gunner".   As Jones has become injury prone we might be seeing a lot of Drew Lock this year.....Hopefully he can be coached into a becoming a real NFL performer.  I wish him the best.

From TD Scouting on Drew Lock
_______________________________________________________________________

PROS

Absolutely gorgeous downfield thrower. Clearly at his best when throwing at full force, both in terms of mechanics and results. Looks the part of a franchise QB when throwing deep. Nearly ideal size/frame and good athleticism. Has the strongest arm among the top QBs in the class. Quick, short, explosive release. Ability to complete all throws on the field with ease. Was regularly asked to make multi-progression reads and demonstrated good eyes in this capacity. Typically accurate when properly protected. Flexible arm capable of releasing at multiple angles. Naturally aggressive and confident attacker, which leads to some stunning creative big-play throws.

CONS

Glaringly inconsistent as an intermediate passer. Struggles to find consistent throw mechanics on touch or timing plays that aren't at full velocity. Aggressiveness and lack of situational awareness make him prone to catastrophic turnovers and wild throws into coverage. Abandons pocket footwork under pressure and backpedaled into trouble too many times to count at Missou. Seemingly picturesque throw mechanics when attacking downfield often disappear when attempting to throw with touch or anticipation underneath. These issues are further underscored by Lock's career 56.9 completion percentage. Never grew into a reliable, clutch winning football player, highlighted by a career 21-25 record as a college starter.

VERDICT

On arm talent and size alone, Drew Lock clearly has the potential to be a high impact player in the NFL. However, serious issues with accuracy, awareness and composure mean he has a significant amount of improvement left still, even after 46 career college starts. Most likely these issues will have to be ironed out on the field as a pro and most likely that experience will be an extremely bumpy ride for whichever franchise commits to him. Lock's upside is undeniable though, and that fact has kept him in the first round conversation all the way through the pre-draft process.

PROSPECT COMPS

Jay Cutler, Blaine Gabbert

GRADE

2nd Round

I don't understand the drew lock acquisition

Tommy has already proven he can carry the team if asked

Lock on the other hand has proved nothing in the NFL

Nice to see Jones looks so good with no pass rush in his face LOL :boooo:

Quote from: Jclayton92 on May 22, 2024, 09:03:44 PMDevito played in the ACC and the Big10 conference, if he was a better qb he would have been drafted. After the 2022 draft teams were trying to find their Brock Purdy considering 66 qbs started in 2023 its understandable. Given all that Devito still wasn't drafted while 14 qbs were. If he had undeniable talent, he would have been found. We signed a guy from west Florida University, if there's talent they are found.

FYI Illinois and Syracuse aren't small programs, he had an opportunity most don't get so I have no sympathy.

He did very well at Syracuse and Illinois.....big time programs
By contrast Jones was a big time loser at small time Duke

Where are we here, in a hall of mirrors?  DeVito is better than the robotic Jones by a country mile

The delta is that Jones is now Mara's very expensive adopted sun

It seems the Giants will let DeVito float and lost to waivers....he will wind up in NE as the next Tom Brady   My prediction

Jones has been touched by the hand of Mara.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on May 20, 2024, 08:54:49 PMThat's funny, since with better personnel (Thomas and Pugh) they gave up a higher percentage of sacks when he was under center than they did when DJ was under center.

Sacks aside they seemed to be more in synch for DeVito (and Tyrod Taylor),that's what I meant

The not so slippery Daniel Jones seemed constantly running for his life

Quote from: Doc16LT56 on May 21, 2024, 12:35:33 PMJustin Pugh did not represent an improvement in personnel. He was terrible on the field, despite his likeable personality. He had a 41.6 PFF grade (compared to 42.4 for Ezeudu who's been a complete disaster).

Pugh was on the couch, played 12 terrible games for the Giants, and is back on the couch where he belongs

I don't know.  Did Pugh retire
Last I heard he intended to bulk up and get ready to rumble in 2024

Guy loves the Giants team and was a coach on the field.  A great confidence boost to an online that looked lost

My sons best friend was a neighbor of Pugh's growing up and had nothing but great things to say about Justin Pugh

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 21, 2024, 08:44:16 AMI am of two mindsets on Miller.

1)  I like his measurables and his back story.

2)  I am mindful that between the college portal and general college scouting, if he had a natural talent, he would have been playing for a big program sooner than he did.  Admittedly, there is some uncertainty here, but you would think his backstory would have included turning down scholarship offers at some point.

Hope your feeling better Rich

I don't know, he certainly had a very different backstory and college career
Maybe he will be another Tommy DeVito story- who also had a cirtuitous college career.
