Big Blue Huddle / I saw improvement
September 15, 2024, 04:42:27 PM
Minnesota beat the Niners who looked invincible last week. The Saints beat the crap out of Dallas.

Both Jones and Daniels improved their game. Second week in a row that the Oline protected well.

I question  :what: no targets to Hyatt and Simmons in the dog house again.

Dru is going to be an elite Slot guy.

Losing your kicker early was a killer and it dictated the Giants game.

I'm not impressed with Daboll's Offense so far. But I get him with the walker on Jones. Maybe there will be incremental improvement. Normally starting 0-2 is a killer but I'm still engaged.

Last week we saw Sam Darnold pick apart the Giants Secondary in Zone Coverage standing in a clean pocket when Dex was off the field. This week, a Zone Defense is best suited for a QB like Jaden Daniels to contain the yards he gains on the ground, but he's also good at throwing the ball as the Receiver begins his break.

I think he has to adapt and have a better mix of Defensive strategy. I was disappointed that he didn't adjust or maybe he doesn't have much else other than a vanilla Defense.

They have gone from one extreme to the other. Too many soft spots in coverage where they got burnt.

This was lost in all the DJ bashing last weekend.

Big Blue Huddle / NFT: New Thread vs Existing Thread posts
September 12, 2024, 01:26:33 PM
If your post would work well within the discussion of a front-page Thread, it would be best not to fragment a similar discussion. When JimV was a Moderator, he brought this up a few times. Often this happens on Gameday diatribes, and it carries over to the next day.

And not to stifle discussion and content, if there is an isolated discussion that is worthwhile having its own thread, then of course do that.

If you get a chance, take a look at least at the highlights and all the down-the-field passing attacks they employed. Anthony Richardson was far from perfect but 9 passes for 212 yards show how to attack downfield. Yes, he threw a 70-yard Post for a TD but there were also YAC on a few. I think that if the Oline film shows how well the protection held up for their first game, I'd like to see DJ hang in and take his shots. Daboll has to scheme them open.

Big Blue Huddle / QB Pressures Daniel Jones
September 06, 2024, 12:19:53 PM
This topic was touched upon in another thread, so I went to my PFF Account and looked into it further. Keeping in mind that there were seasons that Jones was injured, I looked at % of pressures.

2023
Among QB's with high dropback under pressure of 80 or more, Jones allowed the 6th highest % with 20%. Those who gave up more were Wilson-24.3%, Hurts-22.2%, Mahomes-21.5%, Jackson-21.2% and Allen-20.5%. All experienced top QB's. 55.1% of total pressures for Jones came from RG and RT.

Now here is the interesting part. Jones QB own pressure by season:

2019- 16.1
2020- 9.4
2021- 8.5
2022- 15.2
2023- 20.0

Jones was a Rookie in 2019, so I can understand the number. Jason Garrett and his QB Coach likely spent the most time with Jones in 2020 and 2021. The percentage spiked under Daboll, Kafka, and Tierney.

Big Blue Huddle / 2024 NFL QB Rankings

It's just one man's opinion as he ranks them in tiers. He may not be that far off.

Big Blue Huddle / Emergency QB Rule
August 26, 2024, 08:20:29 AM
https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/emergency-qb-can-now-come-from-practice-squad#

The emergency quarterback rule has gotten a much-needed boost.

Last year, in the first year the rule returned, the emergency game-day quarterback had to be on the 53-man roster. This year, teams will be able to elevate the emergency quarterback from the practice squad.

The NFL's owners passed the proposal from the Competition Committee Tuesday.

The Bills had a slightly different proposal, one that would have made the emergency quarterback a third practice-squad elevation. The Competition Committee's version requires the emergency quarterback to be one of the two standard elevations.

That said, the emergency quarterback can be elevated the relegated on an unlimited basis. The only potential wrench would come from another team signing the practice-squad quarterback to its active roster.

The emergency quarterback rule allows the third quarterback to play only if the first two quarterbacks are unavailable, due to injury or ejection. Once an injured quarterback is cleared to return, the emergency quarterback must leave the game.

The Niners, Colts, Jags and Bucs all played their starters. Although the Niners decision to start Purdy is questionable, it was a good move to give work to Richardson who is shaking off the cobwebs and still occasionally has accuracy issues and a disconnect with his Receivers. Not all his fault. Mayfield and Lawrence could use the work too. BTW, Trevor hit Evan Engram two times in the Endzone for TDs.

My motivation or agenda here is to advocate/lobby for giving Daniel Jones at least the first two drives of tonight's game. Not just because he needs the work, but because he needs more time with his Nabors, WDR and Hyatt, his new RB's in handoff, check-down, and PB'ing roles, and his young center and three new Linemen. They can't be afraid of him getting hurt.

Thoughts?

I watched JT's film breakdown of game 2 for Calib Williams, Jaden Daniels, Drake Maye, and Bo Nix, along with the Daniel Jones game which I already posted. Bo Nix clearly had the better game and the Denver play calls matched his strengths. Accurate and quick recognition and release. Still needs to see more shots downfield, and it remains to be seen if his arm is strong enough to fit intermediate passes in a tight window during a regular season game. Daniels also had a strong game and a good game plan. He is still taking some wicked shots, but he has fantastic anticipation, with throws that are released before the Receiver breaks. Maye had some good and bad, with a few accuracy issues, but did more downfield passing. Williams and the Bears looked dysfunctional.

There was one play where Nix was put in the same situation as DJ when he had in his Pick 6, and Nix threw the ball at the feet of his Receiver to escape the sack and just kill the play. Although with Nix's experience, his transition to the League looks seamless. If you don't want to watch all the videos, I would suggest you watch the Denver breakdown. Contrary to what Tom Brady recently said, this QB should absolutely start game one, imo.

Btw, if you really want to gain a better understanding of the QB position, J.T. O'Sullivan does an excellent job breaking it down.

This next Pre-Season Game will determine the depth makeup of this team. It's been discussed in other threads except for QB. Drew Lock has to play to show he can backup Daniel Jones, because Tommy DeVito has shown nothing in two appearances. He's 18 of 34 and a 52 comp %, no TD's and 4.9 YPA. He is clearly not in DJ's league and not starter material. There are several unsigned QB's out there that can be a qualified backup. Cutting Lock is nearly a 5 MM Cap Hit but with Jones' injury history, the Giants need a qualified backup. In my opinion, if Drew and Tommy fail to prove anything this next game, I think Schoen has to take a look at one of these QB's.

I don't know why those of you who have had issues with him/her, have continued to respond to him/her. Obviously, it comes down to more than that. The trashing back and forth and the ridiculous statements are just bad optics for the site. Be that as it may, I've banned him/her from the site completely. Which means he/she can't sign in, log in, read, or post.

This doesn't mean he or she can't change their Host and email address and mask themselves to get another membership.

"It's a different person running the offensive meetings. It's a different personality, different mindset," wide receiver Darius Slayton said. "I think he's definitely come out and made an emphasis on we need to make more plays down the field. We need to create more explosives -- not just downfield but also catch-and-run scenarios, too. It's something he's really emphasized and I think it's shown if you've watched practice. Even though we haven't hit them all there has been an intention to try to get the ball down the field more."...

Big Blue Huddle / Top 5 players to watch
July 22, 2024, 09:29:32 AM
I think Paul Schwartz pretty much nailed it. After that, there are several players that need to be looked at to see how they fit in the new defense and offensive players who are being counted on to step up, especially on that offensive interior and the TE position.

Big Blue Huddle / Jalin Hyatt’s Prediction
July 17, 2024, 08:04:46 AM
Wide receiver Jalin Hyatt said that he's spent most of the offseason with Jones and that he finds the quarterback's confidence "impressive" given how much he's had to go through. Once Jones does get the final green light, he will be throwing to Hyatt, first-round pick Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Wan'Dale Robinson, and Allen Robinson in a passing game that Hyatt believes people are sleeping on as the season draws closer...

Big Blue Huddle / Hard Knocks 3
July 16, 2024, 10:02:55 PM
I enjoyed this episode but one thing stood out and I think it's only because they didn't want to show the evaluation phase for whatever reason. It all about filling a position and reallocation of funds to build a team. Nothing about why Drew Lock and what he potentially brings to the team, as one example. Filling the void of RB with Singletary, because the price was right. If there was no other thought process, it's a flawed process. There was however a different thought process with Burns. If they decided to pay Saquon, this deal doesn't get done. And there was no way they were paying a Safety boo koo bucks. So they get their Interior Linemen, and the pass rusher, while hoping the draft can solidify RB and Secondary.
