It is true Banks did say Daniel may be suffering from some PTSD, but we will have to see how the year plays out and what they do in the draft.

A lot of unknowns so far.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 15, 2024, 03:12:04 PMIt sounds cool, but hasn't the whole narrative on Jones been that his coaches and front office have done the exact opposite of that? I thought that was the explanation for why he has been so bad.

So how can it be a guarantee that the exact opposite will now happen? Kind of doesn't make sense, if you ask me.

Hi Dave,

Because in 2022 they changed things for Daniel, and helped him, and he put up something like a 93.0 rating which was ranked 13th.

And a 60.0 QBR which was ranked 6th I believe, please correct me if I'm wrong?

So just to be fair it hasn't been all bad, would you agree?

And if he's done it in the past, it is possible he can do it again.

Quote from: T200 on March 15, 2024, 02:52:14 PMWhich part did you find interesting?

The very last part, where he said "If Daniel Jones is under center, you can guarantee his teammates and coaches are going to do everything in their power to make him successful."

I thought that was pretty cool.

I noticed Evan Neal is not part of the O line.

I'm expecting him to be somewhere, either at guard or back at RT.

Curious to see what happens this year with him, as it would be a tragedy to have such a high draft pick to be a total bust

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Barkley to the Iggles

Quote from: EliWasrobbed on March 11, 2024, 05:02:43 PMWe would have made the playoffs had we signed literally any AVERAGE qb last year.

The Giants had the 25th ranked defense last year, giving up 23.9 ppg. The issues were far more than just the QB position, and having just an average does not guarantee the playoffs.

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 11, 2024, 07:20:37 PMWhen you are rebuilding, you do so through the draft.  You trade away highly-paid veterans for more picks, not the other way around.

Mighty,

I agree with you

Quote from: kingm56 on March 11, 2024, 09:47:50 AMExcept the opposite end of the spectrum, Joe; BC would still be trying to convince everyone that DJ is a #1 WR away from being Patrick Mahomes.  The title of the thread is absurd; Pitt signing Wilson has absolutely nothing to do with Jones.

Hello,

I agree with you that the thread title is not called for.

However, no one here has said that DJ is a #1 WR from being Patrick Mahomes, that is a bit extreme. However, what has been stated, is if you give him a better O line with a #1 WR we can see marked improvement, compared to last year and a possible winning record. Which would seem to be better than settling for a watered-down version of the top 3 QB's in the draft, but that decision is ultimately up to the Giants and not for us to decide.

Mighty,

He makes some great points.

He first nails it with Brian Daboll.

Last year he is coach of the year, the next year he has all of this turmoil, people wanting to leave, because he didn't have success the following year.

Then DJ played very well in 2022, but sustains multiple injuries to himself and his offensive line in 2023. Opening 5 games were an absolute buzzsaw, and the majority of fans and possibly ownership want him gone.

This has the making of a knee jerk reaction, and could have the makings of what the Jets did by drafting Zack Wilson, he wasn't the answer either.

I fear the Giants are headed in a similar path.

Joe Shoen has admitted in the past that he had wished he had picked up Daniel Jones' 5th year option instead of declining it. So, he has admitted that was a mistake, and if there are any more mistakes, well time will tell.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 01, 2024, 05:45:02 PMI respect and appreciate your intellectual honesty.

What I would say in response is that it was, to be fair, just one season. And it was only a segment of a season. And the matchups Jones faced were indeed tougher overall than what the others faced. I don't think Jones is nearly as bad as he played in 2023. I'm just personally not a believer that he's ever going to be very good. And even if that last statement of mine is up for debate, his obvious proneness for very serious injuries is not.

Yes, I would concur, that no matter how anyone feels about DJ, I think we all can agree that the injuries he's had are more than a bit concerning moving forward.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 01, 2024, 01:27:52 PMI fully agree that Jones faced tougher defenses than the other two. Even taking that into account though and adjusting for it, if I were a big believer in Jones' abilities I would not feel good at all about how he looked this season relative to his teammates who play the same position on the same team. As I said earlier, given he earns many multiples more than the others and occupies a dramatically bigger portion of the salary cap, it should not require parsing of opponents and squinting of one's eyes to try to explain the relative outcomes. Jones should have been the clearly much better player, without question or debate. And he simply was not.

I would have to acquiesce and agree with you, especially after seeing Tyrod perform  who I thought played relatively well, considering he makes a fraction of what DJ pulls in.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 01, 2024, 08:41:16 AMThe line was undoubtedly very poor last year. It was interesting and somewhat instructive though to see how each of our three QBs handled playing behind it.

I think there is some merit to what you have stated, as I do feel you usually present a balanced approach.

I would just add that at the end of the year the Giants played Philadelphia twice, and they give up over 25 ppg, and had one of the worst defenses.

Also Tyrod and Devito were able to feast off of Washington twice as well.

Whereas DJ went up against San Fran and Dallas, two top 5 defenses who give up less that 18.5 ppg, in his first 5 games before getting injured.

So I do think who you play against must be factored into how the qbs perform, because DJ over the years usually has a field day against Washington.

Hi Bob,

This is so true
