Big Blue Huddle / Re: NFT - NY Knicks - 2023-2024

Quote from: madbadger on July 02, 2023, 02:16:51 AMMost of the heavy lifting was done by the previous regime. He had nothing to do with Randall, Barrett and Robinson. He gets credit for signing Brunson and acquiring Hart but he's also responsible for trading four first round draft picks away just to create enough cap space to make Brunson happen. Then again he wouldn't have had to do that if he had just drafted Haliburton in the first place.

He's drafted some nice young players in Grimes, McBride, etc.  Toppin was a fine pick but nobody expected Randle's career to have a huge resurgence that put Toppin in the bench.

He signed Thibs as coach who has done a nice job.

He has amassed a lot of draft picks going forward.

Knicks have more flexibility than they ever have.

The previous regime drafted RJ at pick 3.  That tells you how bad they were to pick at 3.

Look at all the draft picks

Dont like the draft picks back but to say he's in over his head seems harsh considering he's built the Knicks (and their whole org) into their best shape in over 20 years.

Figured to start a new Knicks thread for this offseason plus upcoming season.  So they traded Obi Toppin cor 2 second round picks.  Seems a little light for a guy that I rhink can be a legit starter especially on his new team which plays in transition a lot.  Empties the rotation a bit.  Just hope Randle keeps his play up.

Donnie D pick up is a good one as I like his outside shooting ability plus his D.

DOA!

Custer was no hero.  The slaughter of Native Americans, particularly on that day is a black mark on this country.

Quote from: MightyGiants on June 25, 2023, 12:56:21 PMAs I understand it, because the vessel was launched from a tender, it was treated as cargo (regulation-wise) rather than as a vessel in its own right

Rich - I asked my brother who is a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer.  He designs both military ships/subs and commercial.  He told me while the submersible is on its mother ship it is part of the ship's marine insurance policy however once it goes in the water it is no longer part of the mother ship and is now an independent vehicle and must have its own insurance.

The sub wasn't certified by any accepted entity.  Likely the unique nature of the construction precluded any chance of being certified.

Rich - I wonder then how it got insured because certification is mandatory.

U.S. Navy ballistic missile subs are made of 2 inch thick steel that is 4x stronger than traditional steel.  Those subs are rated to a depth of around 1,000 feet.

To build a submersible out of fiberglass and carbon fiber is a joke.  It is not strong at all and once there is any kind of crack, it breaks down quickly.  The crime is also what country and agency certified it for use and who insured it.  That thing belongs near a beach going underwater, not 13,000 feet underwater 1,000 miles off the coast.

I hope people now realize that all these so-called "adventure" experience to space, underwater, etc are not being handled by military or NASA quality standard equipment.

Sorry all of you have to deal with it.  I've experienced it like that around 3-4x when I lived in CA.  Smelling like brisket with the ash covering everything outside wears in you.  One year we packed up and drove to the Rockies for 2 weeks to get away from it.  For those who can do that, I'd suggest a roadtrip to get away from it.  Prayers to you.

I dont see us getting an edge rusher early this in this draft as the pickings seems less interesting.  If Nolan Smith is available that may be a possibility.

R.I.P. Jim

Nobody provided better historical references than you.  We'd think about contemporary Giant and you'd invariably say, "never forget.......back in Yankee Stadium in 1959."

We all have separateness however for this one forum and for some here friendships were forged in person.

Quote from: LennG on April 10, 2023, 04:57:12 PMI haven't been on BBH for a while, but I got an email from Dan and a call from Ed today about Jim and his health. I would say Jim and I were very good friends and this news really disturbed me. I speak with Jim all the time, about once a month, and last time he sounded well and was in good spirits.
I kind of knew something was up when he didn't send me a Passover greeting and when I sent him an Easter greeting it bounced back to me.
Anyway, I just called his home and spoke with his daughter. As said Jim is
terminal and expected to pass away any time now. He is at home but not conscience and it is just a matter of time. He had skin cancer problems but was OK until a couple of weeks ago when it seemed to have spread to his brain and he went downhill very quickly. His daughter said she will notify me when he does pass.

Just unbelievably horrible news. There wasn't a nicer man around and as huge a Giants fan as anyone could ever hope to be.

Lenn - thanks for sharing that update.  Sorry for your sadness given your close friendship.

Jim - prayers to you.

Get beyond this next challenge Jim.  You have another Giants Super Bowl left to watch.
