Alex Tuch would be my dream acquisition. I wanted him when he was with Vegas. I don't think Buffalo will trade him, believe he is a native Buffaloan. He would be perfect on Zibs right. Shot, physical, skate.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on March 05, 2024, 02:49:39 PMI'm thinking it must be a pretty different place with an age 21 drinking age then my day when it was 18, the Pub was downstairs in the Student Union and the OP was across the street.  Some places I remember are Kelly's Bar with decent pizza and $2 pitchers of Bud or Schlitz, Lee's subs (first subs I ever had), Pancho's Pit. And a steak place across Vestal Parkway that put discount coupons in the school newspaper for a steak dinner for something like 3 buck that included unlimited salad and bread bar and beer.  First place I ever worshipped at the porcelain god Ralph.

Good times.  Class of '77.

So my son(home on Spring break) just mentioned The Pub is now a bowling alley, and there is a bar Tom and Marty's that's been around since the 40's. About the drinking age thing. About a week after beginning his Frosh year I asked him so when are you getting your fake ID. He replied in about 10 days. It's now a dry(cough, cough) campus.

We don't have enough. Historically that has been the case going back to the "Fat Cats" except for 94'. I mentioned in a previous post that there's something missing. That something is an emotional edge. That edge is a willingness to take the physicality of the game to the limits of the rules, and slightly beyond when the opportunity presents. "Sorry Matthew I was trying to clear the puck off the boards, what was that, 4 teeth, and a very swollen cheek, full shield face mask, gee sorry" Basically a f/u attitude all over the ice. Ok, now I've gotten my 1 Cup in 84 years Ranger fan frustration out. They played ok, not great, not bad. Even when they went up 1-0 I thought they were chasing the game. Against good teams they get hemmed in their zone too much. Makes me nuts, especially when they have a chance to clear, and make an errant pass. Just get the freakin puck out of the zone, and start all over. They need to be quicker, and sharper with their passes, and decisions. No more of this x-ice crap. It's dangerous, and doesn't work in today's NHL. Shoot the puck more from everywhere in the O zone. Off the goalie's head, back, a defensemen, cause chaos. Every once in awhile it's ok to take a boarding penalty, we have the PK. Make the opposition keep their heads' up while skating through Center Ice. That slight emotional, physical edge makes the difference. We need one more goal scorer(who doesn't). If Kakko is here after the trade deadline maybe he will come around some more. He's really strong on the puck, but he had the tying goal on his stick, and shot wide. They're very good, but might not be good enough. Unfortunately that's how Bettman wants it.

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 05, 2024, 11:51:46 AMI will be there as I live right by the stadium.  As to where to stay, there are plenty of hotels and motels in the area, with easy Uber/Lyft access.   If you're in the area, you might want to take in the whole NYC tourist thing, as access is quite easy.

There's a Hampton Inn basically across the street on Paterson Planck Road. There are also hotels nearby on Route 17. Mighty, where are you? I'm in Teaneck.

Quote from: Sem on March 05, 2024, 11:15:15 AMI have lots to say about this, but I shall bite my tongue so as to not derail this thread further.

Please derail. Any discussion about Jones needs to have a drinking element attached. Drink enough and maybe we can think his first name is Bert and not Daniel.  <:-P  ;)

Quote from: LennG on March 05, 2024, 11:40:41 AMBert and Harry would have a lot to say about that. Pixels Beer was their fav.

And let's not forget the beer of my beloved Brooklyn Bums.  Shaeffer Beer. I was too young to engage in them before they left. And seems the beer went with them.

Shaeffer is the one beer to have when you're having more than one.....

The Broncos made their bed. I don't believe in all this collegiality stuff between franchises. If I owned a franchise it would mean my fortune would have been made by other means. Yes I would make ooodles of money, but would hardly be dependent on it. My sole purpose as an owner would be to WIN. Why would you sign Wilson for anything more than vet minimum when the Broncs are on the hook for $39MM? Outwardly at owners meeting I would smile, shake hands, pass the caviar, and secretly try to buy the real estate under Jerry's palace. Ruthless, like Bobby Axelrod from Billions. Maybe that's why he was denied a franchise on the show. However I would try to befriend Jim Irsay in order to see if he would sell me Jerry Garcia's Tiger guitar. He owns it.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on March 05, 2024, 10:40:56 AMThere used to be a sports bar in Binghamton that had Tuesday Night specials: 1.00 for Rolling Rock "ponies" and "nickel wings"...my only experience with RR...not terrible...better than Genny, IMO (not saying much)

Schlitz is actually a great beer, and you can still get it at specialty beer houses. Tastes a lot like Yuengling. Utica Club is coming back in style in my area which is also a good beer...again, IMO

My favorite summertime beer in Monticello, NY circa mid-late 70's was Genesee Cream Ale in the green can. Now I'm an IPA guy(Heady Topper, by The Alchemist). My son is a student at Binghamton, he talks about Thirsty Thursdays. They were done with Jones when the Surface was tossed.

Quote from: Ed Vette on March 04, 2024, 02:13:19 PMYou're sure? How are you sure? Did you have a confidential conversation with them? The three Giants are company men and Kiper is a fool with a big mouth. This is what happens when they are too close to the forest for the trees and they try to please the owner. Even Daboll was visibly upset and frustrated with Jones. They thought he was developing after a good running attack and a bunch of short passes and his legs. Like I've said, with protection, Jones can put up some good stats and win games. However, when the pressure is on and it's big moments, he folds. Tommy DeVito and Tyrod Taylor had better results and they are middling QB's. Ahh, wait. They had Thomas at LT, except for games 6-8.

Schoen went off of one year under Daboll and thought he had a Franchise QB. He's also made other questionable decisions. So had Daboll. The slack in their rope is very short. If they don't draft a QB this year, they are just as foolish as Mel Kiper.

When Daboll threw the Surface that's all I needed to see to know how Daboll really feels. Jones probably didn't see something, call an audible, adjust protections, take your pick, that Daboll went over with him 100x. After the toss Jones' expression was that of a kid caught taking too many Oreos out of the cookie jar. They want to draft a QB, and have permission to do so. It's a matter of feasibility.

Quote from: Philosophers on March 04, 2024, 01:04:34 PMIf Mara made the call to sign DJ, then i doubt Schoen is on the hotseat as I might have imagined though getting Neal wrong is a huge ding IMHO.

Mara may try too show he's a fan just like us by throwing chairs, and giving out Pepsi. However he lives in a much different Giant world than we do. It's easy to tolerate losing(they are about 50 games under .500 since 1965) when you sit around with the other owners going harumph, harumph, harumph as Godell distributes duffel bags full of money to each one. The $$$$$$$$$$$$ mitigates, and is a salve for the losing. Love this scene, and Mel there is nothing boyish about those "boys". https://www.google.com/search?q=blazing+saddles+harumph+scene&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS925US925&oq=harumph+scene+&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqCAgCEAAYFhgeMgYIABBFGDkyDAgBEAAYChgPGBYYHjIICAIQABgWGB7SAQg5NjgyajBqN6gCALACAA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:918e706b,vid:NzbhbetwYFU,st:0

He had to. How else could he follow Taylor Swift when she is on tour. He's a Swiftee now, much like I was/am a Deadhead.

What Schein is not saying Mara was the one behind signing him. The two year out was a compromise with Schoen/Daboll. Once Mara said, to paraphrase, we've done everything we can to screw up this kid, I knew we were in trouble. Besides, Schein is a blowhard. Boy, am I opinionated today.

$26MM per year. How much money is the league really making? I'd like just one hour at Goodell's printing press.
