I'm not giddy at all.  I never liked Jones as a franchise QB, but am horrified at what our team has become. How do Daboll and Schoen survive this??  They were stuck with Jones, but that second contract is horrific, then Barkley walks to PHILLY and looks like Superman.  Other players have success.  Wink leaves.  It's a Giant mess.  I don't even think there's a QB in the next draft to get excited for.

If they survive, my gut tells me Mara wanted DJ to be here.  It's the only thing that makes sense at this point.  Otherwise I don't have confidence in the GM and Coach if they really thought this was the way.  Schoen at least has made some good moves/picks so there's that.

No dissonance from me - I want no part of a QB drafted early if it means Jones all over.  What would be the point? I wanted Mayfield in 2023 and things would be a bit better now.  As of now, there's no quick fix.  If they think a franchise guy is available then do it, but more likely they will talk themselves into it because they are desperate and impatient.  Then some rookie will be like EJ Manuel, Blaine Gabbert, DJ etc. everyone gets fired and we go nowhere.

Don't take a QB if he isn't worth it.  Wait.  Find a Vet, hell do tryouts to the public, but not a top pick.

I was thinking of Archie going back to last year but like others have said it's not like we can just go get him.  He might not even declare in 2026 I don't think.

My bigger concern is we take the next Bryce Young or Blaine Gabbert in 2025.  I don't have a good feeling about it.  Take another blue chip prospect or maybe even trade the pick for a King's ransom giving us 2 #'1 in 2026.  It's a mess right now, we need a QB, but I just don't see it next year.

Jones never won at any level, he never had it.  I couldn't care less about QBR, PFF or whatever.  Those things have their place, but they don't replace what we all see.  He was never a great passer, not even sure he was good and I am going back to his first couple seasons.  I wanted him to do it, but he showed me he wasn't able to be in that echelon of quarterbacks who can scare defenses with passing or make big throws at key times.  I'm looking at the pattern not the exception - I know he has had some good games.

Unfortunately there is almost a religious belief in this guy and I think if Devito came in and started winnning those people would believe the coaches learned to coach and WR or OL learned to play.  They just can't accept Jones is not and was not good.  I will agree the NYG did him no favors - the line was a mess for a long time and that hurt him, but it didn't break a franchise talent.

Who is going to want to coach here?  If they fire Daboll I won't be outraged (obviously) but this guy has been hamstrung by a backup QB/RB masquerading as a starter on a second contract that most likely only happened because Mara said so.

I would like to see what this roster can do with a good QB before blowing it up all over again.  Unfortunately that QB isn't available.  I really feel we're just ******* like karma for the Super Bowl wins against Brady is collecting.

I really need to see how PFF graded Jones this half before deciding if he's the guy or not.....

Everything will get better with a real QB.  We will be able to see that yeah the Run D needs a guy or 2, but by and large there are going to be dogs at various places on this roster.  We have to play Jones the rest of the way to guarantee the highest possible draft pick.

Quote from: files58 on November 10, 2024, 11:00:03 AMI just called my son at college who I know is watching. He said "I don't know what Germany did to deserve this game".

WWII.  This is the final punishment.

Daboll probably feels the same about Jones as you do.  I'd want to give him a chance with an NFL QB instead of this guy he never wanted.  But yeah they're a disgrace.

What are the records of other guys like Allen, Jackson, Mahomes, Hurts etc?  I see Allen weekly and he has overcome deficiencies with the roster and coaching.  Also, we're halfway through the season, let's see where Burrow and Mayfield end up.  Their record is still in contention.

I agree a Franchise QB alone can't carry entirely.  When Plax shot himself our offense couldn't function to finish the season.  Get him Nicks (and Mannignham/Cruz) and the rest is history.  We have WR capable of that play, what we don't have is a QB.  It's not like Jones is being held back by the roster around him, it's the other way around.

Quote from: MightyGiants on November 06, 2024, 08:25:11 AMI think one thing worth considering is not just the trade compensation and possible comp picks but also the cost in terms of meaningless end-of-season wins.  Last year, they kept Barkley and McKinney, which helped them win the games and put them out of contention for a franchise quarterback.

To me, what they could get in terms of draft capital wasn't worth the trade.  In terms of what it could cost this team in terms of draft position due to meaningless wins, that may be where a trade made more sense.

This is how I felt last year.  Trade Barkley, draft higher, hell maybe he would sign back here if we had Daniels and made the right offer.  I think on some level Mara knows what's best but just can't bring himself to fire (or not hire) family or let go of players he likes.

I'm good with today.  I like both players and can see as part of the solution one day.  If they leave I doubt it cost us a high pick anyhow.

Quote from: coggs on November 04, 2024, 08:30:35 PMI get PFF has their own way of rating players.  I generally agree with them more than I disagree.  I think elite is a bit of a stretch here.  He had 2 completions for more than 20 yards all game.

Dude had 74 yards passing into the 4th quarter.  He padded the stats in essentially garbage time.  I understand Daboll is calling plays, but it's obvious how little he believes in Jones. I'm sure PFF has a meticulous algorithm for rating players, but the eyeball test also matters.  This offense is anemic and easy to defend due to QB play.

I have said before and say again people will be surprised how much different everything looks once they get an NFL QB in there.  A real passer. Defense had a rough day yesterday, but that's hardly the issue with this team.

Jones 75 passing yards are the envy of the league.

The fact we're even in this game with him is a credit to everyone else.

Quote from: Fletch on November 01, 2024, 03:12:41 PMNo I don't agree.

Jones will be here. If these posters are not Mara's cronies themselves or just stubborn Jones supporters; I can almost assure you this is how Mara is thinking.

I never liked Jones, never got the supporters, but I want him to keep playing the remainder of the year.  Tommy and Tyrod played us out of Jayden Daniels and/or Drake Maye last year.  It was a fun for a few weeks, but I'd rather take the medicine now and reap rewards later.

But I don't think the 2025 pick will be a franchise QB sadly.  Don't think it's a good year.

Officials calling everything but not Nabers being tugged on. Aikman even said there was no shift because Slayton wasn't going anywhere.

NFL ruined itself with the flagrant flags

Quote from: Messiah717 on October 20, 2024, 05:41:15 PMThat was the last game of the year that the Eagles didn't give two frigs about.  Absolutely meaningless.  Otherwise this regime would be 0-11 against the Eagles and Cowboys.

I remember at the time that game meant something to Philly.  And Tyrod absolutely made this team more competitive.  Go get a real QB and everything changes.
