Why would he stay?

We don't even have a QB.  Not a franchise QB, just anyone even able to take us to .500.

No matter who our QB will be next year looks like a copy of this past year.
Would you rather play for some one who expects to win every game or a team that probably thinks they will lose most of them.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Most here thought Ojulari was a bust and not worth resigning until the moment he signs with the Eagles. He's played 11, 11, 7 games in the past 3 seasons. He's not reliable. If we had resigned him, everyone would have been upset we didn't target a real difference maker that can stay healthy.

The Eagles signed him because they lost their entire pass rush to FA. They lost their entire 2 deep, and only have Nolan Smith left.

Adoree Jackson also signed with the Eagles but I don't see anyone up in arms about that. Ojulari was never healthy, we gave him every chance in the world and it didn't work out. Both needed fresh starts.

There were similar comments about Barkley and how did that turn out?

Barkley absolutely exploded on the Eagles, so don't be surprised if Azeez has a solid year next year with them as well.

Would Barkley have put up the same production with the Giants?

Would Barkley have won us games in 2024?

It's an apples to oranges comparison.

Schoen offered Barkley almost exactly what the Eagles offered him a year earlier but with less guarenteed money and Barkley chose the Eagles.

Schoen did right though, he put the offer up but wasn't going to go beyond that because regardless what people say oft-injured Rbs on a 2nd contract never see the end of the 2nd contract because their production completely falls off a cliff.

Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, and Barkley is a phenomenonal player, no one is claiming he isn't, but outside Derek Henry Rbs don't out live the life of their 2nd contract. It's not just 1 running back, it's virtually all of the big name backs from the past 2 decades.

And the list goes on...

Not to mention, until this year no team has won a super bowl in the past two decades with a high priced RB. All of them have been RB by committee with most of the RBs only making a million or a little more. Hell Philly won't their 1st with Lagarette Blount as their lead back making 1.25 million.

Because of the oline in Philadelphia they've always made Rbs look good, and Miles Sanders is another example. Their last super bowl run when they lost to the Chiefs, Sanders blew up rushing for 1200+ yards and it got him paid handsomely to tune of 25 million dollars. What did the Panthers get in return? He started the first 5 games on his big 2nd contract before being benched for a rookie.

Barkley is phenomenal, no one is saying he is not, but he doesn't have the season he just had with the Giants, or half the other teams in the league. He averaged 3.9 yards a carry his last season with us for a total of 963 yards. He would have likely duplicated that +/- a 100 if he stayed or if he had went to a team like the Raiders, Saints, Patriots etc.

So people can be upset that we let him leave, even though Schoen offered him basically the same contract, but if we are all being honest there's no way he has the year he had with us, so it was the right call. We got Barkleys production from 2023 from Tracey at 1/13th the price.

So you think Ojulari is likely to explode, what does that look like to you? He has only been healthy one year of his entire career, and Philadelphia lost almost every one of their pass rushers to free agency, so as of right now he's likely Edge 2 opposite Nolan Smith.

He would have been the 4th rotational pass rusher, and who could have been used in third and long situations like the 4 Aces were. For the money he got paid, he would have been a good investment. I can guarantee that one or two of the Edges would be nursing injuries at any given time. No delusions that he would become the next Barkley or McKinney.

If he has a good year at the Eagles getting 30% of snaps and 10 sacks then good luck to him but he cannot set an edge and is made of glass. Superbowl winning rosters can find space for a luxury speed rusher with injury issues, bottom-feeders like us need to rebuild on more solid foundations. To me it is that simple.

Well, it sure looks like some players take less money for a winning team.

For the Giants, it would've taken at least 6 p.a. to retain him.

Trench

I think k this was a big mistake. Coughlin taught us you never can have enough pass rushers. Should've paid the guy it wasn't that much money

Soundwave401

Ryan Dunleavy reported this discounted price was exclusively for the Eagles just to bolster his stock for FA next year. But even still... even it was 6 million. How can you let a talented young pass rusher just walk with nothing in return. We're becoming the farm system for the nfl. We're like the Pittsburg Pirates  :boooo:

Barkley averaged 5.0 ypc his rookie year, and was named rookie of the year in 2018.

He averaged 4.4 ypc in 2022 and was a big reason the Giants made the playoffs in 2022, I believe you even admitted that in the past.

His 963 yards in 2023 were in 14 games, not 17.

The biggest factor though is by Schoen not re-signing Barkley, he weakened the strength of the Giants roster, and empowered the roster of the divisional rival Eagles.

As far as Tracy goes, he has a quarter of the talent Barkley has, and it isn't fair to him, but he shouldn't even be put in the same class as Saquon, a potential HOF rb.
