Quote from: Soundwave401 on March 18, 2025, 08:47:52 AMRyan Dunleavy reported this discounted price was exclusively for the Eagles just to bolster his stock for FA next year. But even still... even it was 6 million. How can you let a talented young pass rusher just walk with nothing in return. We're becoming the farm system for the nfl. We're like the Pittsburg Pirates  :boooo:

One of Schoen's biggest failings as a GM is not identifying who he plans to keep (when their contract expires) and trading away those he plans to let walk (so they don't let talent walk for nothing).

From Simms to Eli (with an assist from Hoss) our Super Bowl Quarterbacks. Great defense and clutch QB performances...NY Giants Championship football.

I have an old profile still floating around: andrew_nyg....I am one and the same!

Quote from: andrew_nyGiants on March 18, 2025, 09:05:06 AMWhose draft was this? Gettelmen? or Schoen?
I can't remember.

That was Gettleman's last draft.  The only thing I can say good about it was he left Schoen a couple of extra draft picks for 22, including the 5th overall.

Edit to add:  I have to correct myself, it was the 7th overall pick they picked up in the trade, not the 5th.  The other was a 4th (112)

This is the replacement for Branden Graham.  Designated pass-rusher.

The more interesting pick-up for the Iggles is Josh Uche, who also has some run-stopping skills.

Also keep an eye on Jalyx Hunt, who came on as the season progressed.

Can't easily replace Milton Williams and Josh Sweat, but they probably did OK, and they did it on the cheap.

Quote from: sxdxca38 on March 18, 2025, 08:52:56 AMBarkley averaged 5.0 ypc his rookie year, and was named rookie of the year in 2018.

He averaged 4.4 ypc in 2022 and was a big reason the Giants made the playoffs in 2022, I believe you even admitted that in the past.

His 963 yards in 2023 were in 14 games, not 17.

The biggest factor though is by Schoen not re-signing Barkley, he weakened the strength of the Giants roster, and empowered the roster of the divisional rival Eagles.

As far as Tracy goes, he has a quarter of the talent Barkley has, and it isn't fair to him, but he shouldn't even be put in the same class as Saquon, a potential HOF rb.
What are you talking about? Nothing you just said has anything to do with anything I wrote.

Also no one said anything about Tracey being the next Barkley, only that he is a fraction of the cost.

Really read something before you reply.

Another reason may be the chance to play with his fellow ex Georgia teammates- Nakobe Dean, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith, and Kelee Ringo.
It is probably a good bet that Roseman will go back to Georgia in the upcoming draft. He likes them.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on March 17, 2025, 10:33:53 PMWould Barkley have put up the same production with the Giants?

Would Barkley have won us games in 2024?

It's an apples to oranges comparison.

Schoen offered Barkley almost exactly what the Eagles offered him a year earlier but with less guarenteed money and Barkley chose the Eagles.

Schoen did right though, he put the offer up but wasn't going to go beyond that because regardless what people say oft-injured Rbs on a 2nd contract never see the end of the 2nd contract because their production completely falls off a cliff.

Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, and Barkley is a phenomenonal player, no one is claiming he isn't, but outside Derek Henry Rbs don't out live the life of their 2nd contract. It's not just 1 running back, it's virtually all of the big name backs from the past 2 decades.

Todd Gurley
Demarco Murray
Levon Bell
Dalvin Cook
Larry Johnson
Steven Jackson
Chris Johnson
Maurice Jones Drew

And the list goes on...

Not to mention, until this year no team has won a super bowl in the past two decades with a high priced RB. All of them have been RB by committee with most of the RBs only making a million or a little more. Hell Philly won't their 1st with Lagarette Blount as their lead back making 1.25 million.

Because of the oline in Philadelphia they've always made Rbs look good, and Miles Sanders is another example. Their last super bowl run when they lost to the Chiefs, Sanders blew up rushing for 1200+ yards and it got him paid handsomely to tune of 25 million dollars. What did the Panthers get in return? He started the first 5 games on his big 2nd contract before being benched for a rookie.

Barkley is phenomenal, no one is saying he is not, but he doesn't have the season he just had with the Giants, or half the other teams in the league. He averaged 3.9 yards a carry his last season with us for a total of 963 yards. He would have likely duplicated that +/- a 100 if he stayed or if he had went to a team like the Raiders, Saints, Patriots etc.

So people can be upset that we let him leave, even though Schoen offered him basically the same contract, but if we are all being honest there's no way he has the year he had with us, so it was the right call. We got Barkleys production from 2023 from Tracey at 1/13th the price.

So you think Ojulari is likely to explode, what does that look like to you? He has only been healthy one year of his entire career, and Philadelphia lost almost every one of their pass rushers to free agency, so as of right now he's likely Edge 2 opposite Nolan Smith.

Brilliant write-up!

Of course, the Iggles will make former Giants' players look like all-stars given the talent they've had, especially on both O and D-Lines, which only exacerbates the point that the Giants need to improve both sides of the line of scrimmage to even think about competing with the reigning Super Bowl Champions.

Moving onto a better field surface should help mitigate some of Ojulari's injury issues as well.

Strategically thinking, does this move open the Giants to thinking a little more about drafting an edge at #3 or maybe the second or third round (i.e. referencing Duggan's X-post above)???

Peace!

Once again a terrible put down response from you which is typical of your behavior here, and it's been this way for years.

Telling someone what are you talking about? And then with your opening statement from your post literally saying "Would Barkley have won us games in 2024?"

When meanwhile I just showed factually that he was a major contributing factor to the team making the playoffs in 2022, and you yourself have even admitted that in several of your previous posts.

Also your second put down comment towards me wasn't necessary at all, as telling me I need to read something before I respond, actually really needs to be applied to yourself.

If you want to ever have a productive conversation with me then I would encourage you to start being respectful in how you respond.

Another mistake by Schoen.

This is the most fair criticism of Schoen in my opinion.  He should be trading these guys, Barkley in included, rather than watching them walk.  Even if you're just getting a 5th or 6th round pick for guys like Azeez you should still make that trade. I like a lot of what Schoen has done but that stuff is indefensible...unless...you think Mara considers that "tanking" and wouldn't allow it.  I don't know how trading Azeez would fall into that category, even if Thibs was hurt at the time, but I also don't understand a lot of the stuff Mara says and does so I can't rule it out.

coggs

Not complaining. This guy has done a whole lot of nothing since being drafted.
