What did you think of the Cleveland decision to draft 2 QBs, Trade for one, sign a veteran, and carry 5 going into camp? Will there be enough reps and who will get the most?

I don't see them cutting Flacco.

Watson might be IR'd.

So that leaves Pickett, Gabriel and Sanders.

I don't envisage them cutting Gabriel as they spent a 3rd Round pick on him so that leaves a fight to the death between Sanders v Pickett.

Perhaps Sanders lands on the practice squad?

I think Sanders is a better QB than Pickett. Unless he doesn't put the work in.

Better question is what happens Tyler Shough. He was the third QB drafted. Will he start for the Saints? He's big, talented, and will work with a good coach? Could he be the Bo Nix of 2025?

Based on the rather restrained reaction in the Browns' draft room when they made the pick (and the fact that the pick made no sense after drafting a QB in round 3), I can't help but feel the owner got involved.   How often does forcing a player on a team's GM and Coaching staff work out for the better?

The other thing is I heard Bobby Skinner talk about how Brian Daboll has sent Sanders a package of plays to prepare for his interview.   When the interview arrived, it was clear Sanders hadn't put any effort into learning those plays.  When Brian called him out, Sanders did not react well.   Players who are far more talented than Sanders, who were not willing to put in the work, have crashed and burned.

Yeah, it certainly looks (although pure speculation at this point) that the owner foisted the QB on GM/coaching staff or leaned on them heavily to take him. I guess the owner doesn't have to outwardly say "make this pick" but there will be ways to ensure those with the responsibility of selection, have no real choice.

Certainly not a recipe for any form of long term success when the owner is calling the shots in this regard.

Rich,

There's little doubt the Giants interview with Sanders went really poorly..and other teams GMs got the vibe..Dabes probably turned red with that defiant approach..the league I'm sure heard about it..."I don't need you" attitude.

When you have a prospect who has only been coached, his whole life, by his father, there are going to be concerns.   Sanders's lack of effort and reaction was the worst thing he could have done, as it only reinforced the concerns.

After hearing the reports about Sanders' interview, I kind of wonder what a Gruden QB Class with him would have looked like.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

I'd like to know if he offered, was refused or if he didn't offer, or if they did it and never aired it.

I think he can challenge Pickett.  Will be interesting to see.

If Shedeur isn't even able to show he's better than Pickett, who is absolutely not starter material, then all this uproar about the injustice of him falling to the fifth round will have been misguided. There is no real reason to pick a backup caliber guy any earlier than the fourth or fifth round.

I think the Browns' QB room is pretty dreadful, and because of that, Shedeur probably has a pretty decent shot at starting by the end of the year. The team may have a bottom five record in the league by then, so it's not like the stakes of seeing what they have in him at that point are likely to be high.

Chase Daniels mentioned this on his podcast.  The fourth QB gets maybe 8 throws a practice.  That being the case, it's going to be tough for Sanders to make the sort of noise that would move him up the depth chart.

When he was picked at that point, I admit that it felt like a PR move to get asses in the seats and to sell merchandise.

The pick has Haslam's grubby fingers all over it, especially when they already to Gabriel two rounds earlier. The dysfunction in that front office is palpable.
