If Tommy D proves he has what it takes to be an NFL backup QB, consider the following

2023 cap hit

Tyrod Taylor-  $6.9 million

Tommy DeVito-  $0.750 million (if he was on the roster the full season)

$6.9 million can bring in another solid starter at many positions

Fair points.

I'd like to get more data on Tommy D myself. I think it's worth continuing to play him for that reason. I don't have any interest in bringing Tyrod back next year. If we're going to pay $5-$6mm for a backup let's get someone who either has some sort of upside or who isn't an automatic lock to get hurt.

I was hoping Tommy would have shown some improvement this last game, although BB was disguising coverages and blitz packages. It was a lot for an inexperienced QB to absorb. Also Kafka didn't do him any favors. It almost seemed like they want him to experience all of it. Saquon standing on the sidelines was surreal. Man, if they can teach him the TT quick release, it's a game changer. He just may not have the ability but we shall see.

If he beats out all comers they should give the kid a nice bonus.

Hey man, sometimes making the most of your opportunity and the confidence that builds when you do so makes all the difference in the world. DeVito doesn't appear to have the goods and sure, the defense really won the last two games, but those were some sick throws he made to Hyatt.

It was the height of irony that none of Belichik's schemes resulted in an INT, but one bobbled handoff and that's the end of an opening drive score. Not really the turnover you expected.

I was kind of surprised that Belichik's record against rookie QBs was not as high as you would think, it's was in the high .500s

I'm totally fine with TD Tommy to start the season if he beats out the draft pick in camp and pre-season. I am not confident Jones will be ready to start the season opener. I expect him to start at some point in the season. He's getting paid way too much money to not play.

TD Tommy needs to finish the season.

You forget the cap hit of the QB we draft in the first round.

While I would love to see the Shoen and Daboll draft a QB they feel is first-round worthy, I am not sure that it will happen.  I expect at least a couple of more wins pushing the Giants deeper into the draft, and the best QBs long gone by the time the Giants draft or close enough to trade up (not loving the trade-up as this team has so many needs).

I disagree .. he's shown as much ability from anyone at this point in career .. he processes quickly and has confidence to throw down field. he also throws guys open and not into collision like #8 does often. let him learn .. he'll be a middle of the pack qb like all the rest not named Mahomes burrow hurt etc etc

If the Giants do in fact win 2-3 more games (which I don't personally agree with), then you're probably right, but we just heard Schoen say that the QB position was one "we clearly need to address in the offseason, either in the draft or free agency", so I wouldn't completely rule out that they might still try drafting one. I agree that if they fall out of the top 7 or 8 or so the likelihood of a QB draft pick in the first couple rounds decreases.

Jolly Blue Giant

Devito has proven he has the moxie and game-face to hang with the big boys in the NFL, which is more than you can say by the multitudes of first round busts, who melt under the big lights. Definitely proving to us that he can be an adequate backup. Maybe we found our own Brock Purdy...wouldn't that be sweet
The joke I told yesterday was so funny that,
apparently, HR wants to hear it tomorrow

He also scored the princely sum of 10 points on short fields and fumbled a handoff. I don't think his processing can be considered "quick".

Can grab a guard. maybe a situational pass rusher.

I think Schoen's remarks today back up your thesis solidly, Rich. Maybe we'll get you a job as his assistant. Bob
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!
