They can all thank DJ and Cousins for raising the bar. Or should I say the Giants and Falcons. It's the premier position in the game by a long shot and for now at least, it's cash in time.

I see the narrative is that Jones and Lawrence have similar stats. Toss out TL's first season in a dysfunctional organization and Jones 2023 injury season and compare their most recent full seasons.

Thank you for bringing much needed clarity Ed.

More like, thank the owners for continuing to make the QB contracts nothing but a d!!ck measuring contest.

But again, the total value of the deal is meaningless.  Guaranteed money and the structure is what counts.  Jones really  is on the 2nd year of a 2 year deal with two 1-year team options.

I guess that really leaves the 2022 season (if one is going to compare non-dysfunctional seasons).  To fully qualify both DJ and Lawerence had a dip from the 2022 highs (although Lawerence's QBR remained the same and his average yards per throw ticked up .1 yards)

First support (per PFF):

Pass Blocking

NYG- 24th  Jags- 10th

Receiving

NYG- 27th  Jags- 22nd

So in 2022

Now to the stats

Yards

DJ- 3205 passing + 708 rushing  (total 3913)  TL-   4113 + 291 rushing (total 4414)

TDs

DJ- 15 passing + 7 rushing (22 total)   TL-  25 + 5 rushing (30 total)

Yards per attempt

DJ- 6.8  TL 7.0

INTs

DJ-  5 (fumbles 2 and 1 lost) TL- 8   (fumbles 5 and 4 lost)

QB rating

DJ 92.5  TL 95.2

QBR

DJ 62.9  TL 56.1

Lawrence has only played 3 seasons and the last 2 he had 4,000+ yards and 20+ Tds.

If you asked any Gm in the league who'd they rather have Jones or Lawrence they'd likely laugh at you and take Lawrence.

It's not even remotely close.

Which is why I don't put a whole lot into stats and probably why I get into massive debates with some guys here. I am more of an eye test guy.

For instance, look at the Yankees. I like going against the grain (Billy Martin) instead of analytics (Aaron Boone). Analytics puts a lot of stock into "each" guy being at his best each outing. Sometimes what we "see" can be more important. It's the reason some players are known as "money players" or clutch. They aren't always the stars.

Lawrence hasn't been as good expectations he created with his college success, but he has shown improvement over the last couple of years.  Still misses some open receivers high too often IMO.

The contracts are what they are for QBs and it has nothing to do with Cousins or Jones.  QB contracts have been climbing the same way for decades.
