It's been reported that the Giants had the final editing say (although it was only supposed to be for competitive reasons), and Daboll bragged about knowing how to game the system.

Still, the things I tend to look for are often unsaid or unnoticed.  I look at where people sit (this often exposes power dynamics), who speaks (in what order), what they say, who are in the various meetings, and so on.   For example, I thought it was interesting that there was a meeting of just Schoen, Brown, and
Tim McDonnell. That showed just where Mara's nephew is in terms of the power structure. In that meeting, I would have thought that Ryan Cowden, executive advisor to the general manager, would have been in a meeting of Schoen's top people.  I also thought that Mara and McDonnell parrotting Gettleman's old-school, "we have to run the ball" was telling.  I thought it was interesting to see former cap guru and Gettleman's assistant Kevin Abrahms speaking up about Barkley in football terms was interesting.  I had assumed they kept Abrahms around out of loyalty, and he was more or less just a figurehead.

The Director of Player Personnel of the team that is ranked as having one of the worst rosters in the league is a family member.  The Senior Player Personnel Executive of the team that is ranked as having one of the worst rosters in the league is a family member.  This is not a professional NFL franchise, it is a Mom and Pop operation.

with them knowing the cameras are there and having final say, I don't know that we'll really learn anything that we don't already somewhat know.

I learned something about why the Giants have a low ranked roster.  It was when the Director of Player Personnel expressed concern about the offense not having an identity if Saquon left.  I had the thought that WITH Saquon their offensive identity was being 30th in points scored.

His analytics have been horrible for multiple years now. I know you, like me have been an advocate of not resigning him for a couple years now for various reasons.

It's also weird that Barkley lied and said the Giants didn't even offer him when multiple trailers have shown schoen asking  Barkley for his word that they get the chance to match.

They wanted the right to match but never made an offer. I detect no lies.

Mara cannot resist his impulse to Deify certain players like Jones and Barkley.  He gets mesmerized.

I dont think either player was anything more than average at best

The problem here is unless Mara realizes the error of his ways (or the Commissioner steps in as with his Dad), the problem becomes Jerry Jonesian and you cannot solve it.

Schoen is left to work around it, and that makes his job very much more difficult

I now see why Parcells and Belicheck wanted no part in returning to the Giants

In fairness, @Philosophers is not wrong when he suggested most owners will share their views with their GM.  I don't think I would want a GM who couldn't handle the owner making suggestions.

Considering how outdated Mara's views on football are, I would prefer he not put his thumb on the scale by making suggests or sharing what he would do, but compared to other owners, Mara is not considered a meddler.
