This is the best interview I have heard DJ give.  I think he was more relaxed around former NFL QBs Matt and Phill.  That said, considering DJ follows the Eli Manning school of non-answer answers, the bar isn't set that high in terms of best interview (in other words, it's a good but not great interview)

Some things jump out at me from time to time. Please don't take this as a pile-on but it is somewhat of a tangent to the Patrick Peterson thread.

I highlighted a couple parts of your statement that, in my mind, epitomize what Peterson was saying about Jones. Jones had an impressive performance in the playoff win but at the same time, as far as playoff games and his performance overall, it was good but not great.

I think we can acknowledge that without classifying the comments as being hateful or bitter.

Tim,

You might have had me if you had said very good.  In my opinion, good undersells what he did.

Fair enough

I hope he can stay healthy for the entire season.

As far as I can tell, DJ is nothing short of a truly great guy. I feel that is very apparent here.

I know someone (actually a Jets fan) who played in a golf event that he was involved in, and my friend actually got a chance to spend some time with him that day, and he said he couldn't have been a friendlier, more genuinely likeable guy.

Weirdly Jones never looks into the camera

I think his entire personality is definitely introspective
Calm

I dont know if Im seeing a leader here.  He is not dynamic.  Not his fault
Thats him being himself

I suppose it depends on your definition of a leader.

At the QB position, leadership is earned.  QBs earn that right by their play and how hard they work.   If they don't earn the leadership, it takes very special charisma to lead.  In all reports I have heard, DJ is solid in the leadership department, no doubt by virtue of his fanatical (even for a QB) work ethic.

Fair enough, and I certainly agree with you Rich.

Long term though I'd like to think we had mainly stand-up guys on this franchise though as far as the high profile guys go. The fact that Tiki soured himself with a lot of fans at the end of this career has stuck with him since, and we're talking about a long time now.

On the contrary, Eli's "good guy" status will, if necessary, push him over the line to get into the Hall (though I think he'd get in anyway even if he were just an ok guy).

I am not suggesting it's an either-or proposition.  It was just an observation that if you want to be loved by fans, be a good player over a good person if you have to choose.   Tiki's issues weren't so much an issue of being a good person, as his arrogance caused him to ignore the hard and fast rules most athletes follow upon retirement.

Rich you often comment on things you saw in the business world

The guy did not look at the camera once or even smile much, with the two Simms.  He seemed to have a weight on his shoulders.  Extremely shy and shielded.  Painful to watch

If a salesman gave me a zoom presentation with that body language, I would not be jumping up and down.  I would be looking at my watch.

Having said that, if he rights the ship he can look at his shoes all day for all I care
