I would pass on all 3.  Unless you believe the Giants are a playoff contender, bringing in a bargain bin veteran will result in.

1)  Blocking the development of younger players (especially in the secondary

2)  Lower next year's draft pick

3)  Eat up cap space that could be potentially carried over to next season

I am in full agreement with your reasoning. I do not view the Giants as a playoff team this year, and even if they did somehow sneak in as a six or seven seed like they did two years ago, I just think there are still too many holes on the roster for them to be any sort of real threat. Adding one of these players isn't going to change that reality. It will (or at least could), however, have the negative effects you listed.

Just to note, the article proposes seven players as being possibilities:

Xavien Howard
Justin Simmons
Stephon Gimore
Bryan Mone
Adoree Jackson
Matt Breida
Yannick Ngakoue

Greg Van Roten guard
Conner Williams guard

I'd take one of those two for a million

If the Giants coaching staff cannot develop all their young talent, both the scouts who pick and coaches need to be swept out.

The list of drafted picks who seem to be not developing is long.  Poor talent pickers?  Poor developers of talent?

Excellent and very fair questions to be asking.

My own two cents is, broadly as a franchise, we are very lacking both in talent evaluation and also player development.

No question at least one out of two of those problems has to be the case. Otherwise we wouldn't be one of the worst teams in the league almost every year for a decade.

Needless to say, our utter inability to keep our players healthy at anything close to a league average rate is another major competitive disadvantage, and it exacerbates every other problem we have.

I suppose there is A price at which I would want Adoree back, but probably not anywhere close to the price I think he will ultimately get.

I thought he was really bad for us last year. It often seemed like effort level was part of the problem. Why would I reward that by throwing more money at him? Maybe he signs with someone else and has a bounce-back season, but it did not appear to work at all on our team last year, plus he is aging at a position that ages out on a steep slope. I see little point in going after him.

Mone and Jackson, but if they can get Howard, that would be my first CB choice.

I think it's both as well.

From a strategic point of view, assuming the Giants do want to add one or more free agents of any significance, does it make more sense to sign someone now in what could be a bit of a bidding war for an aging player, or should they wait until August cut-downs and be more opportunistic and cost-conscious with this strategy, given they apparently have a favorable position in the waiver order?

Adoreee simply gave up last year in his play and I can see the FO not resigning him for that reason alone.

Interesting... I feel like this seems to happen every summer but he always manages to stick around. Maybe it happens this time though as they are deeper at the position than they have been in quite some time.

While I think Slayton is a serviceable player and I like his ability to stay pretty healthy overall (especially on this team), I wouldn't have a huge objection to a fairly valued trade. He seems a bit expendable, and his $7.75mm cap hit, while not huge, is not negligible either. Plus he's a UFA after this season, and if they don't envision re-signing him it would be nice to grab a pick (maybe a 5?) for him now versus having him walk away for nothing.
