I am pretty sure the Giants were similarly ranked and predicted prior to the 2022 season.  Oddly enough, the predictions were better for the 2023 season.

Predictions are fun, but in reality pretty meaningless

Of course they are.

There's little else to discuss at the moment, so I think it's interesting to see the different perspectives. We have a fair bit of positivity on this board if the chips fall right, the Giants might muster 7-9 wins.

However, if the linked prediction comes true. A few people will be looking for new employers next year.

Here's hoping they are wrong.

Here's my prediction-  The Giants this year will fall somewhere between competing for the top pick in the draft and being a serious playoff contender

Yup.

Every team has some variables.  Injuries to their team and opponents as well as the bounce of the ball.  The Giants have added variables at QB, coaching, O-line, and a few other positions.

They have.

As ever, it's "when" you play the teams too. Which renders predictions meaningless albeit a time killer.

The Bleacher Report had the Giants at 3 wins. I don't get it. They won 6 games last year using three different QBs. This year they have a stronger OL, a game changing WR, a better pass rush and yet somehow they got worse?

When in doubt, always look to Las Vegas who didn't get that empire built by being wrong. The over/under for the Giants is 6.5 and that's a more realistic view of their potential season.

Good news for the Giants. When they are predicted to be bad, they usually surpass expectations.

I'm willing to hope less injuries and coaching changes will make a difference, but I can't really see a winning season.

The OL has been jello lately-will it perform adequately?: Corner is another huge question mark as of now, too.

Then there's Jones..can he unresemble last year and elevate his game? Or is it more of the same?

I'm doubtful that those ifs will work out well. Another losing season is painful to contemplate..but maybe we'll  have some good fortune.

This could be the first time EVER that I have agreed with Ted, but he is right here. We have improved in areas where we were weak last year.
Maybe we should annoint Tommy as our starter and then ee what the pre-season predictions would be.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

The truth is that predictions are meaningless.  Particularly when no one knows what kind of OL the Giants will have.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Amusingly, though not surprisingly, I find the "predictions are meaningless" posts seem to show up in droves in the negative predictions threads. You don't see so many of these comments in the occasionally positive prediction threads.

In fact, such a characterization of predictions (as being meaningless) would very likely be met with rebukes if the prediction in question happened to be a positive one. Have seen it happen.

Funny stuff. Good slow season fodder. Not unpredictable though... Not at all.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I think predictions are meaningless regardless if the prediction is for a great season, a terrible season, or anything in between.  That probably accounts for the fact that I don't make them.

But the next time there is a positive prediction thread I'll be sure to drop in a post about predictions being meaningless.
