Quote from: Bob In PA on July 26, 2024, 11:18:20 AMRich: IMO it's always a "win" for the team when this occurs at practice. One of them ran the wrong route.

We've got enough problems with Daboll's complicated offense without having guys running wrong routes.

In this particular case we can be certain it won't happen to either of those two guys again, IMO.

The silver lining being if you are going to screw up like this, best to do it early in camp

Quote from: MightyGiants on July 26, 2024, 10:47:48 AMI think that you need to view injuries in training camp through the lens of training camp.  The roster is nearly doubled.  Statistically you are going to have more guys banged up.  On top of that, there are some who suggest there are some injuries that are more common during camp.

For me, the things I look for are:

How many start camp injured

Are the injuries concentrating in a position

Is the injured player missing (to them) valuable practice time

Are the injuries the avoidable soft tissue type or are they the result of misfortune and impacts

Are the injuries concentrated by type-  you never want to see a concentration of, say hamstring injuries.

Are the injuries building up to the point that it's impacting practice?

:knockONwood:  Right now, the injuries are not too bad.  Theo's injury was a bit of a concern, but the rest seem on par for this point in camp.

This is a good discussion and I agree with pretty much everything you've written, Rich @MightyGiants , regarding viewing player health, wellness & safety on the field as they transition from being "in-shape" to being in "football season-conditioned." Of course, the other element is managing the heat related injuries under warmer summer conditions.

So there's many different variables to account for when ramping up into game shape. That's why when you brought up the Rams' method for managing players, using evaluation criteria carefully developed to establish a player's risk profile, and his individually tailored mitigation plan, it received favorable reviews and it surprises me that it hasn't been benchmarked as a football industry best practice.

But training camp is supposed to not only mitigate instances and or severity of injuries, it should serve to build and ramp up the players to be ready when the bullets fly for real when Week #1 of the new NFL season begins. For quite some time, it has failed in its endeavor to deliver on that account. It would be a welcome change to celebrate the Centennial of Giants' Professional Football by starting the season with a big win.

Peace!

Giants Training Camp Day 3 thoughts

•Really rough day for Daniel Jones. Threw 6 times 20+ yards & all but one nice Malik Nabers throw was a miss. Some egregious. Plus an INT
•Flip side to that is defense is letting guys get open downfield. They were aggressive in their rush today
•Brian Burns had a lot of good plays & one nasty one on Andrew Thomas
•Jermaine Eluemunor practicing in 11 on 11
•Dante Miller living up to Turbo nickname. Deep TD on a 50+ yard wheel route & another beating the blitz
•Dane Belton with a sick INT to end practice undercutting a Malik Nabers back shoulder
•offense ran a lot of 4 WR & defense 6 DB's with Andru Phillips

This hurts my heart. We finally have weapons who pose matchup problems but still don't have a quarterback who can take advantage of it.

Sounds like Jones has struggled in two out of the three days.

I don't read into this much at all. The correlation between this stuff and regular season play is at best murky. We heard all last summer how awesome he looked in camp and then he was a total disaster in the regular season. Plus in 2022 I don't recall him having an amazing camp, and that was his best season as a pro by far.

I'm just not convinced any of this camp stuff means a great deal, good or bad.

If he were a rookie I wouldn't care but he has an established track record of being consistently inconsistent. He used to get a pass because of the line and receivers but his excuses are running out.
