Jones isn't even being paid like a top ten QB with his $40 million per

Still doesn't make that contract any better.

He's not a top ten QB.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

When Jones got his contract he was put in the top 10 in AAV as a percentage of the cap in 2023. He ended up being 13th in that contract metric that year, but he received his contract before Burrow, Lamar, and Herbert got theirs.

Bottom line: The Giants agreed to make him one of the top 10 highest paid NFL QBs from an AAV standpoint when they signed him, and he subsequently played like a bottom three starter last year and then got significantly hurt again for the 4th time in 5 years.

The contract was and still is, as of right now at least, a poor decision for the team. They know it, and they were clearly interested in trying to move up to draft his replacement this past spring.

So, the O-line disaster played no role in the story?   Did we forget how DJ played record-breakingly well against the Cards?   Look, DJ's performance last season wasn't ideal, and DJ will be the first to tell you that.  Still, I don't think we need to pad the narrative to make him look even worse.

As for the top ten for one year, usually a QB truly paid like a top ten stays on that list for at least a couple of seasons.  Otherwise, I think it's fair to say DJ was paid like a tier two QB.

Not just the O-line disaster but the powder puff training camp that seemed designed avoid pre-season injuries and did no such thing, while leaving the team unprepared to compete.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

Ralph V says DJ is currently 16 on the list based no AAV.

On the topic of the thread, RG3 tried to turn Tua's contract into a race issue, but he was hammered with response after response pointing to Tua's injury history

Injuries and the fact that Jordan Love isn't White.

Isnt Tua Samoan/Hawaiian?

Yes. The original tweet looked like he was race baiting. But Love isn't white - had one full season where he played exceptional for about 50% of it, coupled with one excellent and one dreadful post season performance.

Tua wasn't waiting to be signed because he's not white.

With each deal it affirms by belief that these QB contracts are nothing more than a dick measuring contest between the owners.

With these deals, the devil's in the detail and the gaura number.
You need to look deeper than the top line.

I remember trying to fathom out Jalen Hurts' contract details.
Jaysus, might as well have been written in Swahili. Couldn't make head nor tail of it.

One thing we can probably  all agree on......KC done good biz.

I spent over a decade and a half learning and following the salary cap.  I feel I understand most contracts when I see them.  That said, Jalen Hurt's contract was confusing as all hell.   Having studied it a bit I see the issue.  Most contracts I see these days involve real money.  Hurts' contract goes back to the days when there is a lot of fake money the player will never see (but the agent and the player can brag about a high AAV).   The Eagles also signed Hurts early, which gave the team leverage in terms of the overall deal.   Hurts didn't have to worry about injury in year 4 or an option year 5 or a potential franchise tag year 6, in exchange for a much lower real-world AAV
