Bleak.

Would have expected the Eagles to have won more considering they've been to two superbowls in that time.

Edit - I know we place a lot of emphasis on this board of winning the division, and division games in general. But for me this illustrates it's far more important to merely get a ticket to the playoffs and then it starts again. How many of those Cows titles had more than 11/12 wins. Quite a few, I reckon.

Dallas 98 wins. Most games won in a season 13. 5 years with 12 or more wins.
Philly 93 wins. Best season 14 wins. 2 years with 12 or more wins.
Washington 64 wins. Best season 9 wins.
Giants 57 wins. Best season 11 wins.

Say what you want about Jerry Jones but he's kicking NFC ass. And it's not even close.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

The Cowboys perpetually have a loaded roster due to elite drafting and elite player development.

Their problem has been that they have suffered two long tenures of QBs who fall under the good but not great category. Romo and Dak to me are roughly the same thing: Above average, good QBs who who with a top notch roster can put up big regular season numbers and lead their teams to very good if not elite regular season records.

But their ceilings are also well defined. Neither has seemed capable of elevating their level of play in the postseason when the elements are grueling, and the competition is toughest. Romo consistently choked in those spots and so far so has Dak. Big time.

However when you compare them to the other 31 teams around the league, they're much more successful than most. There are only a small number you can say have made a better last two decades or so.

Is the issue the QBs or is the issue Jason Garrett and Mike McCarthy combined with the toxic impact of Jerrah?

I would say it is the QBs. Neither was capable of elevating their play to a sufficient level in the postseason. I have watched all their postseason games pretty much and have watched both Romo and Dak consistently come up small in big spots in those games.

If it was McCarthy's fault why did he win a ring in Green Bay?

Aaron Rodgers may be an asshat but in his prime he was a top 3 QBs

Exactly.

So while I would fully agree that McCarthy is not exactly the second coming of Vince Lombardi, I would personally submit that the Cowboys' biggest issue in not winning a Super Bowl since the 90s despite having one of the better rosters in the league in most seasons since then has been Romo and Dak. Despite both being good QBs, they have simply not been able elevate their play in postseasons to the level normally required to win three or four games in a row against the toughest opponents in football, often in the toughest of conditions. They have had great teams around them but just haven't been able to get it done.

Would they have had a better chance with better coaches than Garrett and McCarthy? Probably, but I still think it's more on them than the coach. Andy Reid is a great coach but he didn't start winning Super Bowls until he had Mahomes, and it's not like McNabb was bad. And we have all seen what Belichick has looked like once he didn't have Brady. And we also saw what the Arians-led Bucs looked like once they did have Brady.
