I am all for it, as long as it leads to points on the board.

Most players seem to love Daboll, which in theory should work in his favor in this regard, not sure what players have thought of Kafka.

But we need more urgency, more effort, let's light a fire and keep stoking it all year

Whatever it takes to get there.

I agree it might boost the offense.  However, is Daboll fully focused on his job of being head coach of the entire team?

Very fair, very valid question. Especially with the D/ST Coordinators both being new, if they were already established here and we have had success with them and he can trust them to run their units I would be less concerned, but they are both brand new after missing out on the guys that he wanted first.

I'm not a fan of HCs pulling double duty.

Hopefully he can pull it off.

I don't buy the idea that a specialty-specific coach can't be an effective HC. Andy Reid, Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay... no one is complaining that they place too much emphasis on one side of the ball. If you hire a guy because he's an offensive genius then make him give that up in the name of some more generalized oversight, I don't know that you're getting a net positive.

You are not alone in your thinking. They may not all be offensive geniuses but adding Brian Daboll to those named above, and then also to the following: Mike McDaniel, Josh McDaniel, Zac Taylor, Kevin Stefanski, Shane Steichen, Doug Peterson, Sean Payton, Mike McCarthy, Matt LaFleur, Kevin O'Connell, Arthur Smith, and Frank Reich will mean that half of all the HCs in the League will be calling plays.

But, of course, we all knew that.

Cheers!

In at least one HC responsibility, planning and running camp, IMO he is doing way better than last year.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Rich,

Good observation.  I think it's fair to say, Daboll did some self-scouting and made some adjustments in how he approaches things.

An impotent stuttering offence needs an injection. Yeah, I'm all for it.

Should be easier now he doesn't have a coup in his ear either.

I'm with you. Plenty of coaches, including some of the absolute best (as you listed), do this. I don't feel this approach precludes overall success for the head coach or the team.

We'll see how he does with NO Josh Allen to bail him out.

He already won Coach of the Year (in his rookie coach season) with Daniel Jones as his QB. Where did Josh Allen factor into that equation?

I repeat; 50% of NFL HCs, do the play calling , which with Daboll added to the 15 others, also can be seen as half of the League. So, what's the big deal? It's really too early for us to do the one thing we do best, i.e. Second-Guess

Cheers!

Larry, playcalling isn't unusual.  Running the offensive meetings is a bit out of the ordinary
