Right. Sounds like Dabs is the defacto Offensive Coordinator, which once again begs the question, what is Mike Kafka doing?

I'm good with Daboll doing all this. I think people need to play to their strengths.

However there are two things that I am wondering about:

(1) I have no idea how good Bowen is. He could be absolutely amazing, he could be terrible, or he could be anything in between. That is how I see it anyway. He didn't exactly blow me away with his insights or level of presence in Hard Knocks, but I'm not putting any stock in that observation. He could still be awesome. But whatever he ends up being, he's going to have a lot of control over his side of the ball given how involved his boss is going to be on the other side. I hope he's up to the job, because we have some very good players on D, and I expect them to be at least roughly average.

(2) What exactly is Kafka's day to day role now? I mean he's the offensive coordinator of this team, by title at least. That's not supposed to be a training role. If he's not calling the plays and not running offensive meetings, what is his job? I assume he's not designing offensive game plans given Daboll is the one calling the plays an running the meetings. Seems like Kafka is more of a glorified assistant of some sort now. I guess to be fair, he came from a team where the OC was in a similar position to what he is in now.

He is now the assistant head coach.  Maybe he's doing some of the things Daboll should be doing   ;)

He was NEITHER the OC or calling plays his first year.  So we shall see how he does with those duties, the duties he had in Buffalo with Josh Allen.

I believe Ben McAdoo was also Coach of the Year in his first season.

No, it isn't. Certainly, not now when half the HCs in the League are doing it. Until recently, I too would have thought the HC running the offensive meetings was something out of the ordinary. But, not anymore. Indeed, if you look at the personalities and histories of the HCs on the list I posted, you will begin to think of the OC, with few exceptions, as becoming not much more than a data collector/ analyst, a sounding board, and an otherwise useful super nummary.

Cheers!

With those duties in Buffalo, Daboll won Coordinator of the Year in 2020. Are we going to try and discredit the resume of a guy who won Coordinator and Coach of the Year?

And a simple Google search would tell you Ben McAdoo never won Coach of the Year, so it's a strange thing to (erroneously) bring up. If the point is that bad coaches have won the award... okay? That tells us nothing about Daboll. The 2022 squad was horribly undermanned and he piloted them well.

I'm struggling to see your point.

He wasn't, and he actually did not receive a single vote.
