From what I've read this preseason it appears Jones is making a concerted effort to throw the seam pass over the middle. This will be a welcome addition to his arsenal

Giants Training Camp Day 9 thoughts

•Last day before joint practices so seemed like a light day
•Brian Burns is stacking great practices. Even getting wins v. Andrew Thomas
•Greg Van Roten hasn't taken a single Guard snap in camp
•DT Elijah Chatman is quick and getting more opportunities. Think he could be a preseason darling
•Seems Andru Phillips has establish himself as the nickel CB

When it is such a quick pass how do you have time to do anything BUT lock in?
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

Simple - do what Rodgers, Peyton, Eli, Brady etc used to do which is "while" they're taking the 1st 2 or 3 steps back all he has to do is place his eyes on the other side of the field....and then on the 3rd or 4th step back he finds his man on the other side

Good stuff. Thanks Rich
The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing

From Dan Dugan

Notes from today's practice:

• Daniel Jones was accurate/efficient on a steady diet of short/intermediate passes. He had an interception on a pass that went right through Daniel Bellinger's hands to Jason Pinnock. Bellinger only has one catch from Jones in team drills during camp.

• Jones hit Wan'Dale Robinson for a long TD on an ugly play for both sides. Some of the OL didn't move immediately when Greg Van Roten snapped the ball. Robinson ran straight up the seam from the slot. He ran right past Pinnock, who raised his hands after the play toward rookie corner Dru Phillips, who was covering a receiver on the outside on the play. Brian Burns would have had a sack on the play.

• Phillips has been getting first-team reps at slot corner the past three practices. Didn't see Nick McCloud get any reps in team periods today. Likely just a rest day.

• Cor'Dale Flott has been better the best two practices. Seems like his coverage is better on underneath routes. His problem has been the deep ball.

• Burns was in the backfield a lot. On one play, Andrew Thomas shifted to the right side pre-snap and Burns beat him. Jones was trying to go deep on the play and then scrambled after the Burns "sack."

• Elijah Chatman continues to get a first-team reps. He had a "sack" today.

• Isaiah McKenzie has been more active recently. He would have had a TD on a slant catch-and-run from Drew Lock after beating Tre Herndon, who was getting second-team slot corner reps.

My last day at camp.

Not sure how much I will see.  The main field is the one along the field house away from the fans

Daniel Jones jumping in to save his guy in that mini fight was impressive.

Also anyone see the jersey number of the giant player that hurled the lions player like a baby in the big fight? Couldn't tell if it was Phillips or McCloud.

Dru Phillips started like 3 of the fights

Observations from Giants camp:

1) the Lions are serious about injuries.  Every player, except the QBs wore the padded helmets.  The Giants only are about 65% wearing them.

2) Sat with Bobby and Justin.  Adrianna, a newer Giants podcaster/Youtuber, was sitting with us today.

3) Watching one on one line drills (Giants D) was really impressed with Chapman.  I think he is a lock to make the roster.  I also think Nacho has stepped up his game this year

4)  It looks like Dru Phillips has locked down the slot CB position

5)  Simmons looks good in coverage, especially against TEs

6) For those wanting the Giants to trade for QB Hooker:  He's third string (behind Nate Sudfield) on the Lions and didn't impress

7)  Not sure it was wise of DJ to get involved with the fights

8)  Last year reports were the Giants got their asses kicked in their first practice.  This time the Giants more than held their own against a team that potentially is competing for the SB

9) quite chippy out there with Dru Phillips instigating more than his fair share of dust-ups

10)  I am growing concerned about CB 2.  Flott isn't cutting it.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants sign a veteran FA

11) It was hard to see the offense work as they were on the far field.  I did see DJ hook up with Nabers on a long throw, though.

12)  As excited as I am for Theo, I am not seeing him produce on the field (at least just yet)

13)  Turbo had a nice run with the 3s

14) I'm still a little concerned with the Giant's run defense.  Admittedly, it was hard to gauge in camp, but it didn't look as strong as I would have liked

15)  The Lions have name-free jerseys, just the numbers

16)  There was a busted coverage or two.  The Giants still need to clean up their coverage in Bowen's system.

17)  Dex is still a beast

18) Burns looked good against the Lion's O-line.  KT was just okay

19)  Ojulari shows some nice bend.  I am really concerned for Edge number 4, though

20)  Roten is getting a lot of snaps at center (not even sure he has taken any snaps at guard).  I have a feeling the Giants are less than excited with their backup centers

21)  The Lions punter was impressive.  He was booting it 60 - 65 yards
