The Giants waived injured RB Jashaun Corbin today. He was working on the side with the injured players and then left the field midway through practice.

They claimed CB Christian Holmes, who was a seventh-round pick by the Commanders in 2022. He appeared in 30 games over the past two seasons, mostly on special teams. Third cornerback added since camp started.

Can't imagine this is suddenly going to be our CB#2. Still feels like one of the (true) veteran FAs is probably the way they go.

Holmes was drafted in the seventh round (No. 240) of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Commanders. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound cornerback has played in 30 games with two starts over the last two seasons, primarily on special teams. His career totals include 20 tackles (11 solo), one pass defensed and two fumble recoveries.
After beginning his collegiate career at Missouri, Holmes transferred to Oklahoma State where he played for two seasons. During his senior year in 2021, Holmes registered 39 tackles (33 solo), one interception and seven passes defensed on his way to being named second-team All-Big-12. He also earned first-team Academic Big-12 honors as a super senior.
Between his time at Missouri and Oklahoma State, Holmes played in 60 games (27 starts) and finished with 30 total pass breakups and three interceptions.

This is classic taking advantage of the early place in the waiver wire.  Good that they are using it to try to upgrade the secondary.  I'm in favor of throwing stuff against the wall hoping we'll find some contributors.

How hard can it be to beat out Flott...
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Corbin was just never able to gain a foothold on this depth chart. From what I saw of him last summer he never really looked like he had much pop.

If you're a running back and you couldn't even make it to final cutdowns on this team, that's rough, as this is a very thin group. Might be tough for him to make any NFL roster at this point.

H-T: Rich has been mentioning that roster spot as a key issue for a while.

There has been no positive reporting on Flott coming out of camp, although not much negative either).

Tell-tale signs that the team is also worried might appear Thursday night, depending on how much time he is on the field, and how much they put him "on the spot" (both in run defense and in pass coverage).

If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

Bob,

Flott varies from bad outings to ones that are mediocre.  He hasn't really flashed, and it's hard to feel comfortable with him as CB2.

Rich: I like Flott and have since his early college years. I know he's "too light" or "too slight" but he doesn't play like an undersized man.  I'm surprised that the maturing process alone hasn't added much to his body style, but I'm still hopeful he's going to be ok.

Watch for them to put him on an island or play him a lot more (or a lot less) than might be expected on Thursday and especially next week. So far, I don't see the Giants doing anything unusual to make me conclude they're eager to replace him, although, as you have suggested, it would not surprise me to see them grab a veteran corner after final cut-downs.

Even if that happens, IMO the player they get will not beat him out. IMO, there must come a point in the Schoen era where he takes a firm stance on some of the key players he has drafted, and IMO one of those guys is Flott... and his time is now.

I will add that Flott's weakness seems to be in deep coverage

Excited to see if either Tracy or Miller and develop while Singletary handles the load starting out.

Miller has flashed in camp.  Tracy (other than his two fumbles) hasn't drawn attention one way or the other
