I am not quite going to say these two things are mutually exclusive, but I would say it is very hard for a front office to do a great job in this sport and get great results if ownership is weak.

You have to look at the totality of what a GM does.  The Jets picked up 2 quality Olinemen and could easily go from botton ten to top ten in that category.  And their defense was topnotch last year without Hassan and most of them are back.  So even if Hassan sits out they should still have a very good defense.  It doesn't mean the Hassan move wasn't a bad move, but as everything in football, context matters.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

The statement you quoted was intended to be a general one, about any team's ownership and front office. I wasn't really addressing this Hassan deal specifically with that comment.

I didn't say the front office is doing a great job; I think they've become a good front office.  Off the top of my head, I think the Knicks fit the good front office with weak ownership.

Why do our HQ offices resemble a halfway house?   Who architects these buildings?

With or without Reddick that defense is still going to be good.  Last year with an awful offense they were around the top in most defensive categories, including being tied for 1st in yards/play at 4.6.  A somewhat competent offense will only help that defense.
