He has to play. Ideally for a full half or more. He stunk last year, he got hurt halfway through the season, and he has had a bad (or at the very best "mixed") camp. He needs all the reps he can get. Especially considering all the new faces in the offense.

In a later post, they report Neal is off PUP and will practice.

Good news on both fronts. Thank you for this update!

Peace!

I'd be surprised if he got a full half.  More likely the 1st quarter and out unless he REALLY stinks during that quarter.  With a guy as injury prone as he is, coming off as severe of an injury as he is, they are likely going to do everything short of wrap him in bubble wrap until Week 1.  The entire season and potentially the jobs of Daboll and Schoen are riding on Jones being healthy and not awful.  Neither of which we've seen a whole lot of.

This is likely to hurt my eyes.

Jones is currently rated one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL.

Does anyone really think this is going to change?

Having said that if he has a great game, so be it I'll be happy for him

Yes.  Full half.  OL needs the pressure that they have to protect him.  He needs live reps.

It's worth noting that there are no joint practices with the Texans.  So it's likely most of the first string will be playing on Saturday

They have no choice. They can't expect DeVito to play the whole game. Lock is out. Just hope he stays injury free.

Stringer Bell

It's possible their plans were to plan him just a couple of series, but the Lock injury likely means he'll play the 1st quarter.

I'd be surprised if he plays more than that.

I hope they start Jones in the final pre-season game and have him play the first half.  It took several training camp practices to knock off some of the practice rust and I think he needs more game time to knock off more of the game rust.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

Not slowing my roll

I agree and hope they do as well.

Agreed. Needs to get rid of the jitters and settle down. He looked much better when the Texans changed most of the D to the 2s. He's needs to do that against the 1s.
