Comfort-  DJ's bounce back
Comfort-  Naber's impressive catch
Comfort-  The impressive play of Baby Bison Chapman
Comfort-  The offensive line play

The oline play was the number one positive take away. Two games in a row. They executed on many levels. If they can take that into the regular season, it will go a long way to the Giants being competitive.

I am not going to look at single plays as positives or concerns but rather games and as Ed noted, two games and two solid performances from the OL.

If DJ's mistakes are slightly off throws like Stingley's INT, that is a much better mistake than a really bad read given his time off and rustiness.  That is why I think they need to play him a lot in preseason.  I'd keep him in for 3 quarters the next game.  He needs live game reps.

If you noticed, my titles are "concerns" and "comfort".   I thought those words reflected the reality that one can't draw too strong of a conclusion from PS games, much less a single PS game.

I won't feel "comfort" with DJ until I see him play solid football against an opponent's 1s on defense. He didn't "settle down" yesterday until we has playing with his own starters against opposing backups.

With that said, I'm reserving judgment until I see the real games. Last summer we fell into the same trap the other way. DJ was getting bouquets thrown at him all summer for his camp and preseason, and then he couldn't have looked worse once the real games were played.

For me the best thing about yesterday was the play of our O line. Nabers looked good for sure, but I fully expected that and continue to. The line is more of a question mark, and they looked very good.

I also think he needs to get some playing time next week. I'm not counting on it.

Bo Nix is making mistakes but has confidence in himself to come right back and make a tight window throw.  That is how I want DJ to think, believe and perform.  Not make a mistake then resort to check downs the rest of the game.  No, attack again.

My comfort:

- no serious injuries!!!

- it's not a real game and coaches are experimenting with a lot of things and will tweak things before the real games start

- like I pointed out earlier in another thread, DJ taking risks that amounted to turnovers shows that if he's ever going to become a major QB, he needs to throw the ball out there and let the chips fall where they may. It's not his comfort zone, as he is overly conscious of making mistakes, so he takes safe outs...but he needs to get out of his comfort zone. Great QBs let it fly and interceptions happen...just ask gunslingers' Brett Favre or Josh Allen (who had far more interceptions thrown than DJ). The more he throws, though, the more confidence he builds, and the more he is forced to let his complimentary players make plays. I'm comforted knowing Daboll is telling DJ to let it fly and for him to get used to it. This is the NFL, not college and QBs need to trust receivers to be at the right place at the right time and bring the ball in

Concerns:

- none really...these are not real games, and Daboll is "test-driving" players on the back of the roster...separating the wheat from the chaff and experimenting with ideas. Most of the plays that will be used in real games are not used pre-season, as Daboll keeps his cards close to his chest. We won't know what we are dealing with until we watch the first few real games

That is what one is looking for, especially in PS games

My causes for concern regarding Jones:
1. Why in hell does he insist on running and taking a hit head first instead of sliding?!!!!!!....he won't make it past 1/2 a season doing that

2. He needs to show more emotion both when he messes up and when he has success. I remember seeing him play better when he shows emotion

3. His ability to learn from mistakes is still lacking (not giving himself up and sliding, and also not understanding he needs to throw balls away)

He needs to play next week. If he doesn't then we should expect major rust and mistakes for games one and two

It's his chance now to work on it.  He has no competition and a big contract.
