Did you track the Texan's substitution patterns?  What percentage of snaps were against 2nd and 3rd stringers as opposed to first-stringers?  How many 3rd stringers did DJ face?   Also, was the great throw that Nabers dropped against 2nd/3rd stringers?

Dan Orlovsky made the valid point today that DJ has not thrown 3TD in a game since 2019 so cannot afford the panic brain fart pick 6 type play. He avoided them in the play-off season. He has to avoid them again this year. We can live with the deep ball INT if he also completes some for TD/to set up TD (which he did) but the panicking under pressure simply cannot happen. Taking more deep shots might even see more three TD days if DJ's nerve and the OL holds up. We can hope it was 'rust' but hope isn't a plan!

I think Dan's comment is a bit self-serving.  He omitted rushing stats.  Otherwise, he would have to go no further back than last year against the Cards when DJ had 3 TDs or the last game of 2022 (regular season) when he had three TDs against the Colts.  Since he is specifically referencing scoring vs turnovers, I would love to hear how he justified his omission of rushing TDs.

Still, Jones led two scoring drives — including a field goal in the 2-minute drill at the end of the half — hit Slayton on the deep ball and looked good running, gaining 12 yards on the ground on an effective scramble.

This is EXACTLY what he has been ALL camp. Inconsistent but then gets hot. Not great days but then has phenomenal days.

What he showed the other day is what he is. Perhaps that is enough to get us to the playoffs.

My barometer for Daniel Jones coming of age and impressing me this season is simple - he needs to go out and BEAT the DALLAS COWBOYS.

This is a very good barometer. In fact, it is Strategic Imperative #2 for the Giants' chances for success this season:

SI#2: Narrow the gap between the Giants and their key division rivals (i.e. Dallas and Philadelphia).

Whether that comes from improved play from Jones (NOTE: it should), improved offensive line (NOTE: it MUST ... see Strategic Imperative #1) and keeping the key players, and all players for that matter, healthy (i.e. Strategic Imperative #3: Improve the Lost Man-Games Due to Injury metric), striving for (and achieving, for the most part) consistency is every coach's unwritten but assumed goal. It is safe to say that consistency should be an objective the Giants should be expecting out of the quarterback position. Every QB will have an off-game, here and there, but continuing to work towards a level of performance that can be measured as close to consistent, as possible, will benefit the rest of the offense.

I guess we will have to wait and see how long it takes Jones to achieve that level of consistency with the offense when the bullets start flying for real; hopefully, not too long!
