Did we give up to early on a potential star?

Ex-Giant Matt Peart is turning heads and is one of the best tackles this preseason with a PFF rating of over 90  :what:

He is now a Denver Bronco and has been turning heads all preseason and put on a dominating show against the Packers this past week

Did we give up too early? Bad coaching? Bad luck? And last of all, will we do the same with Neal and give up just as he's about to turn the corner and be an elite RT???

The fact that Keith Richards has outlived Richard Simmons, sure makes me question this whole, "healthy eating and exercise" thing

It depends, if he is running with the 3s those scores become a lot less impressive.   When you are looking at PS performance, when they play can have a great impact on the performance of skill and trench players as they tend to be directly competing with an opponent.

Ed Vette

He played well at camp last season but as Rich said, it was a different story against first string players.
"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

I don't know  :-??

Here's a clip from gmenhq

"He was never a standout by any means, but something is obviously clicking for him in Denver. Could it actually be that he's simply improving now that he's no longer learning from Johnson? It wouldn't be the first time, as interior lineman Jon Feliciano struggled with NY, but then went on to ball out in 2023 with the 49ers.

With Johnson now with the Commanders, Carmen Bricillo is the new OL coach for the Giants and he's been making countless headlines over the past month too. Against the Lions and Texans in preseason action, the offensive line showcased big-time improvements.

The hope is that Bricillo can save the career of Evan Neal. Neal, the former No. 7 overall pick, has been working his way back from an ankle injury, but his workload is set to start increasing. Bricillo and him should be tied at the hip leading up to Week 1.

As for Peart, he's now making a serious push to make the 53-man roster. This wasn't an expectation for him when he first signed, but he has flourished and no question turned Sean Payton's head. We're happy for him, but come on, we also would have much rather preferred for him to look this way in a Big Blue jersey instead...

I don't know about Peart, but I do believe that up until Carmen Bricillo came, The Giants OL coaches left A LOT to be desired. We may not have had top tier talent at every O-Line position, but there is no way they should have been as bad as they were.

Didn't he stay here for the entirety of his rookie contract?

I wouldn't call that too early by any stretch considering the lack of any form of quality play that would be expected of a 3rd round pick

Maybe he is a better schematic fit there, maybe the change of scenery motivated him or a different coach clicks better, in any case happy for him, but by no means whatsoever do I want him back.

Just because he is a tackle, does not mean he will be as effective on any team. Fans sometimes ignore schematics, coaching styles, and things liek that

As others have said, it may also be the strings he played with potentially.

Peart was drafted as "project" by Gettleman. I hated a 3rd round pick on a project, when there were holes elsewhere.

As others have stated, it that grade is against the 1s, he's done very well indeed.

However, if it's against the 2s/3s - anyone with a modicum of talent can impress against them and it's nothing to get too excited about.

Bob In PA

Everything everyone else said above, plus, if he is truly turning the corner to become a solid tackle, that's one more piece of evidence that our prior OL coaches were "lacking" (to say the least). Bob
If Jeff Hostetler could do it, Daniel Jones can do it !!!

According to the article, he's going to make the 53 and be their "swing tackle", unless he nails one of the ends. He's impressed on both sides of the line...apparently anyway  :-??

Players get pigeonholed by the team that drafts them. It's hard to change the opinion of coaches who have a certain opinion on a player that they saw struggle early on. They tend to keep that opinion even when there is improvement. From Pearts' perspective: new city, new coaches, new stadium, whole different world...and a fresh start where coaches see you differently. At 6'7, 320 lbs, young and athletic, he's built for the job if a coach believes in him. And apparently, that's made a difference. On the other hand, maybe he'll be a bust. He's getting a chance to go for it though. Personally, I think coaching has an awful lot to do with player development. They're handed a ball of clay to mold and it's a mental process as well as physical process. The player has to know the coach believes in him and is optimistic about him. And sometimes, personalities simply clash and a player is never going to get a chance. If not, it's best for him to move on

The guy was horrible from what I watched. If indeed he has turned the corner then our coaches were worse than I thought

If he makes it then that's a good news story, for certain. But it hardly should be surprising that another Giants' offensive lineman cast-off makes it somewhere else. Here in Phoenix, Will Hernandez has been a welcomed addition to the Cardinals' line and was recognized as being one of the top three guards in the NFC West from last season. He is being counted on to further stabilize their line for Murray this coming season.

If Carmen Bricillo truly "fixes the Giants' damned offensive line, once and for all," through his coaching, it will undoubtedly be yet another damnation of Johnson's overall body of work as a lineman coach and, perhaps, it will be a great equalizer when the Giants and the Washington (team formerly known as the Redskins) meet for their home and home this season. Indeed, this bears watching.

Peace!

"Dave Jennings was one of the all-time great Giants. He was a valued member of the Giants family for more than 30 years as a player and a broadcaster, and we were thrilled to include him in our Ring of Honor. We will miss him dearly." (John Mara)

Johnson was horrific, but Sale, Columbo, Hunter, and Solari weren't any better.  They haven't had a decent OL coach since Flaherty.  Let's hope  Bricillo breaks the chain.
I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a vindicated pessimist.

I have no idea if Peart will play well in regular season games, but if he does, it won't be the first time that a Giant O lineman who did not play well here played materially better somewhere else.

Maybe it is all about the coaching. That's definitely one possibility.

It's also not the only possibility.

Might have gotten better on his own in an offseason regimen... late bloomer

QB play is another possibility.
